Why coins sink?

i always thought they sank cause they were scared because they knew one of us would be coming to get them and put them in a jar....be like a life term in solitary confinement....better to sink so as to be able to visit with the worms and such, get a bath every once in a while, kind of like bronson hiding in the hills on death hunt..........................gldhntr

Okay, I'll buy that.
I do have to say that there are some interesting things going on though.
When I first started detecting, I never found Memorial cents at 4-6" deep. Now I find them that deep and can hardly believe it. I used to find Indian Heads at those depths.

;D Take a 12 pack up in an airplane, fly to 5000 feet, open the door and let it drop. ?;D

If you are digging and still getting a signal that was shown at 4", I wouldn't dig over an inch more than what is shown on the LCD. KYou have either already dug it up and missed it or it's somewhere in the side of the hole, Use a pinpointer/probe to find it. Monty

The tectonic plates are always moving and sending vibrations to the surface in
slight increments. This movement causes the denser coins and jewelry to move deeper in the soil.
Now, when you have big shifts in the tectonic plates you have an earthquake. Every area has this movement,
some are just more pronounced than others (i.e. California) i hope this helps.
