I'm not trying to be funny here, this is how I really feel. I think a large part could be the plumbing as mentioned above. Guys can get out in an area and, if nature calls, find a tree and be done with it. A guy can even have a container in the vehicle to relieve himself in. It's much more difficult for women to accomplish this task. That could be a factor in the decision making process when a woman is trying to decide on whether to participate in an outdoor activity or not. Add to that the "weaker sex" factor and the fear of becoming a victim of crime. It is a real concern in our society and women have to be alert more than men to their surroundings. Then there is the vanity factor. There are many women, not all but many, that just won't go out in public and play in the dirt. Many women would find it difficult to swing a detector for any length of time. I find it difficult myself at times. Then there are those that may have a boyfriend/husband problem. He may not be interested at all in metal detecting and won't allow her to get involved. That's right, I said "Allow". Relationships like that do exist out there and are a factor in this poll. It's quite often that people say things like "Oh, most women just don't do that sort of stuff" but, there are many factors that come into play besides "Genes" that effect what people take an interest in doing. Women need outside interests every bit as much as a man does and it doesn't seem unatural to me to see a woman metal detecting; it's neat.
