why are there more male mders?

Gloria Steinam would be very dissapointed in this question. Afterall, there's no inherent difference between men and women, besides indoor vs outdoor plumbing, right? :P

I'm not sure that Ms. Steinem would have a lot to say here. I do believe that men and women are inherently different, equal, but by no means the same. I simply wondered why this is such a male-dominated activity and if there are any women out there who would be interested in getting together with like-minded women.

My wife has done the metal detecting thing but she is petite and does not have the arm strength to dig much of any holes. And besides, all she has to do is follow me around and grab the coins out of my holes! ;D :D

My wife told me that she isn't brain damaged and all the MDers she knows are. She only knows me and Baldingboy, unless you count my 8 y/o daughter. :D :D :D :D

??? Because most of us stupid men are trying to make payments to ex-wives?
It would have been cheaper to include them into our hobby instead of trying to get away from them for a few hours at a time. hehe Just a joke! Don't get mad at me. :)

Desertfox

Hell, I couldn't get my ex interested in anything while we were married, so why screw up what little enjoyment I'm getting now.

Get as mad as you want, because that no joke (with me).

My wife went with us a few times and she liked it and I hope she goes out more this fall. She was there to carry all my gear. Water, camera, smokes, (she would light them for me), shovel, TV on her back if the race was on. She is my portable storage unit. Marriage is great!

Well my wife doesnt do it but she likes to go out with me and watch what I pull up so she can put claim to it!! She doesnt want to miss a good ring or something. I might not show her what I found if she is not there!! ;D

My wife goes with me sometimes and she likes to use the pinpointer,
but she has no interest in the MD. She don't like bugs and has a hissy
fit if she catches me cleaning my coins in the kitchen sink :P , but its
still fun when she goes with me.
Most men are tool/toy nuts and metal detectors fit in nicely , women tend to be more interested in the find and not so much playing with the detector. If she sees me going over a target and looking at my indicator and changing modes and such , she gets impatient and tells
me to dig the darn thing already ;D

I know what you mean doozis!! ;D my wife keeps telling me she is going to get me a treasure chest for my finds so I looked on the net and found one for her to get me now she is back paddling She wont buy it for me!! ::)

This kinda brings up a good point, what do you fellow metal detectors think about the war on Fathers? Remember the show father knows best? That would be looked down on today on today, us men are portrayed on tv as bumbling idiots, think of the sitcoms where men are just lazy, and sit on the couch with remote controls, swigging beer. Men are needed, they are needed now more than ever, to be strong and impart wisdom and leadership to their families. Our children need us to be the strong men that we were meant to be. Didn't mean to hijack the thread but this is my opinion and I wonder if there are others of you who have noticed this trend by hollywood and the feminists.

Kids definitely need both male and female role models to grow into good people. A lot of kids today are coming out of single family homes, and they are having a tough time of things. I'm not trying to bash the guys -There are a lot of great PEOPLE on here, Male & Female

There's lots o' gals into 'tectin as with many other outdoor hobbies also. I find that gals jist don't gotta "show off" like men do so ya don't see or hear a lot about 'em.
Am i correct gals ?

outdoors stuff --- lots of women are AC QUEENS --- simply put you ain't getting them outside the house in the summer unless it catches fire-- they don't do "outdoors" stuff --- they hate the heat, the bugs, getting dirty and messy so on and so forth --- my wifes just like that BUT she knows I like the outdoors and lets me be me and go metal detecting or deer hunting or fishing (depends on the time of year) a good bit with no "harping" about it -- I just got to keep the "honey do list" caught up to date but other than that its all good -- Ivan

Oh boy Ivan, now my wife would , in her words, "deg to biffer" alll day long with ya on this one.Janet would only be upset about any o' thise things IF i did 'em without her.
Oh yeah, she is the dumpster divin queen of Allegheny County too. ;D
Curbside shoppin at it's very best.

we look better in black knee highs and sandels

SHEESH:

It is simple you broads just don't know your place in the scheme of detecting!

You insist in using a detector instead of digging the holes for your far better half.

You have forgotten God' memo ---- well the detectorist's creed anyways snicker.

"Women shall be kept in the kitchen, barefoot, and pregnant, or about to be"

The following posted picture is an idea as to just what & where a female's place should be --- except in war zones ---, then she should be in front in case of any unknown mine fields.

heheheheheh

After living in California and Hawaii, I have seen some real "Hotties" with a metal detector.
Most of you just live in the wrong place ;) Better fo' me!

I'd like to see some of the women of treasure hunting post their pix here so the rest of you would see that it's not exclusively a male dominated endeavor.

Terry

I think there are a lot more females out there detecting that we know about. They just aren't like men. They don't have to show off to be happy with themselves, and that is ok.

Sheehs gals,guys:

I had thought that I would have been drawn and quartered by now, sniff I suppose that this means that you know me too well and didn't take my post seriously.

Don Jose de La Mancha

I just figured that you were joking or in the event you were serious, with ideas like those, there was no way to justify your posting with a response. I'm glad to see that it was the first and not the second ;)

I metal detect, bottle collect(hunt),fish,go camping,4 wheel..ect.Get muddy and yucky... I also can get dressed up and go out an be a "girl".. I think that ability to do both,is one of the things the hubby admires most about me. Not afraid to get dirty :P and then can turn around get my nails done and put makeup on ... blah blah..

I'm not trying to be funny here, this is how I really feel. I think a large part could be the plumbing as mentioned above. Guys can get out in an area and, if nature calls, find a tree and be done with it. A guy can even have a container in the vehicle to relieve himself in. It's much more difficult for women to accomplish this task. That could be a factor in the decision making process when a woman is trying to decide on whether to participate in an outdoor activity or not. Add to that the "weaker sex" factor and the fear of becoming a victim of crime. It is a real concern in our society and women have to be alert more than men to their surroundings. Then there is the vanity factor. There are many women, not all but many, that just won't go out in public and play in the dirt. Many women would find it difficult to swing a detector for any length of time. I find it difficult myself at times. Then there are those that may have a boyfriend/husband problem. He may not be interested at all in metal detecting and won't allow her to get involved. That's right, I said "Allow". Relationships like that do exist out there and are a factor in this poll. It's quite often that people say things like "Oh, most women just don't do that sort of stuff" but, there are many factors that come into play besides "Genes" that effect what people take an interest in doing. Women need outside interests every bit as much as a man does and it doesn't seem unatural to me to see a woman metal detecting; it's neat.
