Why are people so mean?

I never have understood why some get so much pleasure out of making fun of others?? I wonder if the smart alec comments and just plain rudeness would be said face to face or just on the forum because one is basically anonymous. I have gone to the profile page of some of the people who post some of the most hurtful comments and their sex is O. Or is it zero?( Zero could explain the negative attitude. ) they put very little, if any personal info about then selves. Where they live is often an imaginary place.


I realize some people are ignorant and some are just plain stupid! Id you don't know the difference the Library has a dictionary. Oh yea, one can now find information using a PC. BTW, it wasn't so long ago that PCs didn't exist. Computers filled entire rooms and were so expensive that some major corporations didn't invest in them stating that technology wasn't worth the investment.

Did you know that satelite imagery has been available to our Gov since the 70's? Or that's what they tell us... Has it been around longer? It is now available online for our personal use.

What is possible to one is plain bogus to others. There were those who thought the Wright Brothers were off their rocker. Where would we be today if they hadn't followed their dream? Putting a man on the moon was filmed in a studio was a common topic for many years. And then there's area 51!!

To summarize ( for those who think I am totally out of my mind) Please don't make fun of someone because of their beliefs, thoughts or ideas...hurtful comments are seldom funny except to other stupid people ( did you look up the definition?) With perservation comes success!,

I'll get off my soap-box now. BTW, I contacted Paul Revere to spread my message but he was unavailable.....

I have noticed most will be rude while on the comp in these type of forums. I believe it is due to the real life not being able to actually say what is on their minds while being out in public. Here they can say whatever they feel and dont have to get fired or be in trouble for saying it. Its a type of release of stress not having to be responsible for their actions. Yeah they can get kicked off the site but it is a very different type of thing. I have learned just to ignore the people that act like that. It use to bother me but I have learned the difference.

People have been so conditioned to respond to their environment, that they do not recognize/accept, that their thoughts and actions are their own. Therefore they are always the victim, and another is always to blame for their plight.

People have an inner hatred of what they don't know and/or understand about people and themselves. To look internally at our own flaws and dysfunctions is so much more difficult, than just placing blame and condemning others, for what we (unconsciously) hate about ourselves.

The following clip, is NOT the full movie, but starts at the end, to explain this inner turmoil/chaos inside of each person. Most will tap dance around what is said, by attacking the video, the speakers, and even denying that they themselves, are not this way. So you can take it with a grain of salt and dismiss it, or be fully awake and recognize within yourself, what you and everyone throughout history is truly capable of. It's just info, how you perceive it and what you do with it, is your business. People can either open their eyes or keep them shut. (Take a look at worldtalkers signature sometimes and think about it).

Plus, some ppl may not realize also, how easy it is to skip-trace someone, if you know what you are doing.

you are right maburger, but it is not just this forums but all over the internet as some one pointed out. in real life face to face the people that are usually rude are at a place in life that most people can not or will not say anything to them , due to wealth or position or even age .
i am constantly amazed at people online that are rude for no reason or i should say get rude over little or no reason.
most people have forgot what it means to live by the golden rule... or even by Thumpers moms rule :)
 

There are some condescending attitudes on here, but for the most part people bend over backwards to help and are overly kind on items members post. From what I have seen sometimes the truth hurts feelings, some people have a hard time accepting that what they thought was rare and valuable is not. Also difference of opinion on a item and you have a clash of egos. Overall this forum is overwhelming friendly.
 

Comments on 'treasurenet' reflect a cross sectional view of our society; it takes all kinds, and they're all present here.
How each of us reacts ('kneejerks') or responds (thinks out) to these comments reflects who we really are.

You have brought up some good points, but beware......In your own words, you posted about others being stupid, and ignorant.......Is that taking the higher ground, It also lessens you argument. As some others have said, Tnet is a large cross section of not only this country, but members abroad, who culturally have different ideas on what's rude and what's not. Think of your computer, as a radio, or TV, If you don't like the tone of the discussion, move on, when you return to that thread, if the topic interested you, thing will most likely calmed down. It's my opinion that you can't control how or why people say and do as they do, But I can control my reaction to them, and respond or ignore as fits the time.

I guess also, most ppl feel they will never meet another person on a forum, so couth and decorum does not have to be applied.
I belong to MD clubs, meet with other MDer's, go to t-net picnics, I sell online, I also own property, that is all public accessible knowledge and info. I don't worry if someone wants to "hunt me down". Depending on their approach, will determine how they will be received. :icon_scratch: :laughing7:

I know it sounds weird but if people would take the time to read our rules(it addresses all of this) maybe a lot of this would not happen. I hate being the rude police but when I see it, it is gone,deleted. I do not tolerate hatefulness or mocking another. I am sure you guys would feel the same way. Problem is we cannot always stop it and the hurt is done. I get kinda numb to it after awhile and just delete it or ban their hateful self :thumbsup:
This is supposed to be fun.You can narrow an I.P down pretty close to a location if need be.
 

I just figure they are drinking, drunk or maybe just mean, then again they could just be obnoxious people hiding behind their computer.

GMD52: I have a problem with people making fun of others. This stems from a time long, long ago...well anyway, I feel I need to rescue the underdog. You're right about being able to pick and choose what I read or listen to and I often have to bite my lip to keep my mouth shut in the real world. I also try not to reply to posts that aggravite me until I've had time to think about it.


I do wonder where my thought's come from...it's often hard to distinguish them from the voices in my head.

I can with utmost confidence say you do not create thoughts,only receive them.
 

When you see a problem post report it, it is impossible for us to read every post or thread or be in every forum every day... Dont just complain about it report it by hitting the black triangle on the left below members name of the post you think has a problem..
 

Some people are just jerks.
Some people are just "straight shooters" and can come off as rude.
Some people are jokers and jokes can easily fail in the translation of typed words.
Some people are thin-skinned and too easily offended.
Some people are just looking for a chance to be offended.

The world is full of all kinds.
 

I've been on Tnet since 2007. My experience is that the overwhelming majority of posts are encouraging and kind. It's easy to focus on the few people who are rude, but they truly do not reflect most posts. I also think the mods do an outstanding job of monitoring the boards and dealing with those who are offensive.
