WHO WANTS TO DIVE FOR TREASURE

Clear and warm for now.The oil slick is in the gulf current so it wont be good for later this year or towards the end of summer.Oil slicks have been spotted off shore of miami and port st lucie.

Attached is a photo of some residual oil my buddy saw in the 710's off Sebastian, about 95 ft depths. Not sure if it is BP oil but he collected a sample to send to the proper authorities. He said there was a slick of this stuff, not all thick mats of it like what has been observed in the gulf, though.

Scott,

This is Luis (metal detecter at the Riptide). Wanted to thank you for allowing me to park at the Riptide yesterday!

Had a nice afternoon swinging the coil and found some clad.

After reading all the post on the Jupiter Wreck it has really got me interested in ship wrecks......cant get much work done looking through all your posts!! Looks like fun.

Maybe some day i can join you out on your site to see and experiance the thrill of being underwater over a historic ship wreck!! Thanks again.....Clam16. :notworthy:

Hey Luis, don't worry about all that clad, at least you know your new detector works. :D Keep swinging it up and down the beach and the good stuff will come to you. Hopefully we'll see you again soon. If you are a certified diver I bet Scott can find a spot for you on the boat some day.

Enjoyed meeting you!

Jason

jason,

The coil will be swinging every day i get. Thanks for your kindness.

Coins look sweet.....hope to pick one up soon!

Hello Luis

Get your certification finished and we will take you diving with us. In the meantime keep working the beaches and get to know your Minelab, then you can teach me how to use mine, I never really got the hang of that unit.

Hello Scott,

I plan on finishing up soon. In the meantime i will keep stopping by your place, saying hello and on to swinging that coil!

The Minelab is working out real well for me.....getting the hang of it quickly and love how well it discriminates in the water and on the beach.

I will stop by The Riptide this week.

Take care.

Finally got back out today. Blew two empty holes, something was in the second . When we reblew it, both rear anchor lines broke at the same time. Had to reanchor and Dustin brought up two out of the hole, let off some line and blew agian. Mike Wakefield just swam out to join us and we are all going down. Pictures to follow.

As always, best of luck out there. Tim

I TOO WATCH FOR OUR FAVORITE COLORS,YOU KNOW GOLD AND SILVER,GOOD LUCK WITH EACH DIVE.MC :headbang:

Seahunter,
Always remember... "Today's the Day!" Keep going and give my best to Jason.
I had another little setback that I intend to overcome soon. After getting married last Saturday to Deb, I celebrated so good that I didn't realize until Monday morning I had slipped a disk in my back. I thought I had damaged a kidney and was drinking the dreaded Cranberry Juice all week only to find out yesterday from the doctor that I've been running around with a bad back for the past two years! Jesus, Scott, I hope there will be enough of me left over to actually give you some help in the future! Right now, all I'm good for is to stand watch...

Hi John
Congratulations on your wedding. When your back get's better, we will still be here waiting for you.

We came up with a new motto:

" This hole is the hole"

Get better soon.

Well we got skunked yesterday for the first time this year and I guess Jason and Mike got upset or motivated and they found a cannon and a cannon ball in the second hole today and we are making the hole bigger and going back down. No gold coins in the barrel.

Scott,

A previously unknown cannon? Very nice! Sorry to hear it wasn't crammed full of booty, but sounds like you are on the right trail.

Robert

A cannon not stuffed with Silver and Gold....boring...lol. Kidding of course.

Congrats on an awesome find...Are you planning on raising the cannon?

Good luck

NJ

If the cannon isnt bronze, just leave it there for a great marker.

Hello Robert

No it is not a previously unknown cannon, we just have not seen it since October 2007. We have been working the shallow waters recently since everrything was uncovered. We had just started back out on our old trail yesterday and it took us two days to find the cannon where we left off in 2007. It had originally been tagged back in 1995 and has been left there. Jason also found a neck to a olive jar that was quite interesting with what looked like some green glazing on it. Maybe tomorrow we will find some more treasure or a couple more cannon balls.

Glad you found that starting point from 07. Looks promising. Saw you guys while coming in from fishing last evening about 5pm. Went out about 6am. I guess you put in a long day too. Need any Mutton Snapper filets? Tim

After some cleaning, our cannon balls turned out to be quite interesting. We are familiar with regular bar shot, and spike shot, but given how these were encrusted together we think we may have found an example of triple bar shot (like regular bar shot but with 3 cannon balls). We found 4 cannon balls total, one was seperate and just a normal cannonball, 3 were together, with one having a spike all the way through and the other two both have single attachment points like you would expect to see on normal bar shot. I first thought they were plugged and full of gun-powder, but that is not the case. Being as these three were found encrusted together, my guess is that the other two were once attached to the ends of the bar. Then again, maybe it's just spike shot. At any rate they are interesting. Enjoy!

Jason
