Who knows the origin of ring?

This silver ring would be held to identify the great help I need .... Europa Saxon? Viking? Rome? Middle Ages? What might seem? I wait for ideas and tips.

Inscribed rings are quite rare to find in the UK , don't know about your country judging by the lettering, I would guess 12th-14c but just a guess, it could be earlier. ..nice find.

Silver was more prized than gold to the vikings...in the main. It's still the same today.I find very little gold on Swedens beaches here,but lots of silver.Both sexes will wear more silver jewellry than gold when out clubbing or beaching etc.
To give you an idea....more viking era English silver coins have been found in one Island region of Sweden (Gotland) than has ever been found in England!
They prized silver very highly, and the carvings/runes on this ring remind me very much of viking jewellry...although could be Germanic,Gothic etc. Nice find anyway.

Hi Dano I know that the Vikings prized silver......but I am thinking older than that...Getae??.. purely conjecture though.

Amazing! Great find!! One of the runes is likely the symbol for the sun, Sowoli, the one that looks like an "S" made from straight lines. The others remain cryptic. Do some research on runes and you may find your answer. Here is a good place to start: http://www.sunnyway.com/runes/

I think several folks have asked what country this "treasure" was found. So? Where on the planet earth was this found?

It does have a bearing on what it means when it comes to deciphering it. No GPS location required. Just North America, South America, Europe, Asia, etc. Thanks.

been thinking....Hungary was occupied by Germany during WW2. Nazi SS troops were very partial to these type of rings,so it's possible it was lost (or the wearer was killed) in the war. Just another idea.
