Whites vs Garretts detectors (Your Opinion)

redloh that a bout right 55.00 bucks and hour 10.00 for the switch I have a classic l and ll the two I had to put a switch in i called tony at electronic exploration bought one he sent it by mail did it my self that detector is a good sounding detector easy on batteries just switch them the speaker is the hardest on the batteries no depth loss in discrimination not like some detectors

can't wait to tell my uncle his detector is going to be deleted and after 10 year throw it away "love it" but not my white's they will fix it till all the parts are gone not no 10 year dead line old man Charles makes more money on the books he rights than the detectors he sells so no big deal to him

I am proud to say that I no longer have any White's products in my arsenal. I do, however, have two Garretts, two OLD Tesoro's, and a Minelab.

So now what are you going to do for a number one back up machine

I have used a at-pro and various whites... For my hunting conditions whites is much better than garrett... The autotrack on whites is just amazing....

yaa but don't tell that to a tesoro user they'll get there free life time warranty tied in to a not

white's are the best

Are you talking about the ace series?

This is only my opinion so don't bite my head off,but I think the garrett's are more user friendly than the whites unless you're talking about the coinmaster. I used to hunt with my buddy who had a spectrum xlt. Don't get me wrong ,but I found it much more complicated than mine. But that's just my opinion8-)

The XLT can be used right out of the box with a factory preset. Turn it on, pick the program, ground balance, and go. I switched from a Garrett GTAx 1250 to an XLT and thought the transition was pretty easy. There is a learning curve with the XLT when settings are tweaked, but nothing too difficult. If someone can use a smart phone the XLT would be a piece of cake.

If there is a simpler Garrett than the whites m6, with the same performance, show it to me...

My first detector is going to be a Whites MXT Pro with the 9.5 concentric coil. I plan on getting the 6x10 Eclipse DD and lower rod with my bonus bucks promo. Did I make a good choice, guys? Oh, and I hope to have a Lesche (thanks, Doug!!!) digger on the way today, too! Since it's still perma-frost here in Michigan, I think I'll have to visit family in Va. or Tn. to do any digging. The forecast calls for temps in the low to mid 30s at least through next week!!! Spring hasn't sprung until we get a solid week with temps in the mid 50s!!! Where's Global Warming when you need it? Al Gore needs a good slap!!! :headbang: Rock out with yer coil out, I say!!!

Keep this in mind, you can have the best equipment in the world, it does not guarantee results. The only part of our hobby that can drastically increase our odds is researching locations, not going blindly into a farm field for example...

that's 100% correct

Rodger that, my friend!!! I think the research will be more fun than the digging...until that Colonial coin or Civil War artifact pops out of the hole!!! I was a history major in college. Europe may have some amazing things to find, but for only having some 350 years (give or take) under her belt, North America has much to offer!!! Just wait till our Nova Scotia breathren unearth that Viking axehead/burial site!!! That's what's exciting about this hobby. Metal detecting can find the PLACES where our history actually took place, making it all the more real for everybody. Hunt on, my friends, hunt on!!!

you are making a wise chose
when discriminating out junk all ways look at the screen when the threshold breaks or spits and sputters
that means your discarding sum-then but your mxt pro will still show you what you just passed over
remember vdi 16 to 18 can be a nickle or vdi 18 to 20 can be a nickle i find them that way all the time

congrats liftloop

ive a whites classic id
my wife got me 13 yrs ago, put on a coil cover
and its still going, very easy on batteries, headphones help

ive also an old discovery 1100
still works great also
CARE is the key word to a long lasting machine as well as the care it takes to build one
however some accidents and missed issues do happen.

I had a 2500 and was not impressed with it and traded for a DFX. The DFX did a lot better than the 2500. There are more changes that can be made on the DFX, that you can't do on the 2500. I bought the AT PRO because it is not always sunny and dry, when I want to detect. I am not just loyal to one brand of detector, I use what works best for the conditions that I am hunting in.

My very first unit was a Whites and it lasted about 15 years. The only reason why it quit was because my father left the batteries in it for over a year and the batteries leaked. Then I moved on to Garrett and both of those units died not long after the warranty expired. Last Christmas I had a Garrett Pro Pointer and it didn't even work out of the box....Maybe it was just bad luck with Garrett or perhaps they make inferior products. I've had Fisher and Tesoro since and no problems with those units either. So will I ever go back to Garrett? Probably not. Even though I have been tempted to buy an AT Pro, I don't want to take a chance from previous experience. But if my 20 year old Fisher CZ5 should ever quit, I'll be going back to Whites. There you have it.

You shoulda sent those garretts in evan after warranty expiration. I bought a used garrett in the 80's and it broke after about three years of hard use and I sent it in and they fixed it FREE OF CHARGE!
No better company out there than GARRETT. Anyone ever do a little research to see just what Charles Garrett did in his life? The things he invented? Is there a Mr. Whiite? I've never heard of him. What did he do?
I bought a Whites back in the 80's as well. A 6000 di pro I believe. What a pile! No ground balance option. Hated it and couldn't find those foot deep slick mercury dimes like I could with the Garrett.

Then you never owned a 6000! GB was first thing you had to do every time you turned it on!

Could that be because it does more? The XLT can be used almost turn on and go with the stock programs. Frank... <img src="http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=962695"/>

An added note: It appears Garrett is ditching the Ace line. I just saw some ace 250's (new) in one of my sale catalogs. I think they was $195.
That line has been around since the early 90s , that wouldn't surprise me. The entry level machines usually get changed. The whites idx disappeared and out came the coin master. It happens this way with most brands.
