If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice. - Neil Peart

Uh, yeah.....that's a choice too. Thanks for the tidbit of knowledge passed down from generations ago Gleaner.... LOL Fashizzlemanizzle.

Mark, "Freewill", a timeless classic rock song, is the second track on Rush's 1980 album Permanent Waves. The song's lyrics deal with the subject of free will, emphasizing that free will is not a gift but rather a choice; explaining that Man can attempt to evade the fact that he must choose, but that evasion is itself a choice. Which is another way to say that if the op cannot study and decide upon such a simple thing as a metal detector pinpointer, then his ass is in a sling.

And I would tend to agree. Get a ProPointer, get a PistolProbe....either dang one will provide dang good results dang it! Lmao

I was told for years to try the Garrett pro pointer
got one last Spring - it can save you so much time on small objects
especially in muddy areas and can save you from scratching deep coins on the bottom or sides of hole
good for coins on edge and throwing your machines pin point off

GO with the Garrett pro pointer, time saver plus they stand behind them. had a push button stick sent it back
and they sent me a new one with a new battery! They have my vote.

Screw driver is the cheapest probe to use on shallow coins.

I don't understand this method. :dontknow: For what is the screw driver? You pinpoint the object with Your MD, dig a plug and now You need the pin pointer to locate the object in the dirt. Some coins are 1/4 in diameter.... When using a screw driver to pull the coin out You probably scratch it. I can't speak for the pistol probe because i did not have any experience, but the Garrett works just fine! :icon_thumleft:

I'm with you Westfront on this. I've seen many good silver coins (seated & barber) that are 1 or 2 inches deep that would have been disroyed by probing with a screwdriver.....

Garrett Pro Pointer.
Because of the proximity feature. The tone gets faster as you get closer to your target.
If a coin is in the side of the hole, you can miss it with another pin pointer and keep digging deeper. $127.45 All over the internet. You might find one cheaper but I could not.

You are soooooo correct! I find myself "stirring" the hole to find the coin.

You have to get over the digging the plug or kill the hobby.

I don't want to take any chance of touching the coin which is why I much prefer to dig a plug. I have seen coins popped using a Lesche as well. Everyone has their own technique which they like and if using a screwdriver works for you then there is nothing wrong with that. I can see using the screwdriver in parks or ballfields where the finds are not very deep and you don't want to damage the grass. But a lot of my older coins are 6-8" deep and deeper and I have to dig a plug. Good luck with which ever choice you make. Just be good on how well you use your technique.

I have a rounded over probe for doing that works well on shallow coins, can`t even tell you have dug a coin ..... now thats (old school)
Thanks Gary G.A.P.metal

Pinpointers are a great thing for sure, no doubt. Someday I might spring for one, and if I do, we all know what brand it would be of course. If your soil is not like concrete, and you can pinpoint a target decently, and you learn how to determine depth accurately by audio response, and you learn how to cut and flip out a good clean plug, then you will learn to easily recover the targets without a pinpointer, quicker, and with less damage to the turf.

Yep Gleaner......we KNOW which brand it would be. :icon_pirat:

Dang good choice! You won't regret it. I have mine on my belt every time I hunt!!!!

Just checked them out 4 days ago, My oppinion: Garrett Pro Pointer has Many great reviews*****. Wht's Bullseye has some button problems, Harborfreight has reports works at a cheep price but probe shaft breaks off. Eagle eye has great price and some with free shipping, BUT THEY DON'T LIST THE Mhz, even went on line abd distributor still NO Mhz listing but many bad reviews only detects to 1 inch to 1 1/2 inch, (A comment: you almost have to be touching it for it to detect. Bottom line, go with the Garretts Pro Pointer. Happy trails friend.

I have both the garretts and the whites bullseye II i prefer the whites a little more for a reason most will find petty, on the garretts you have to push the button to turn the pointer off after you locate your target on the whites just take your finger off the button. both are tough and well made, worth the money in time saved looking for items you've detected.
