What's your most unique artifact?

Here is mine, it's n exausted flake knife from St. Clair Co., IL. Made from burlington that has been creekstained orange. A little over 4 inches long, and uni-faced. I would lean towards paleo if I had to pick a time period, JMO! Let's see some of you unique artifacts when you all get time. Happy Hunting!

Re: What's your most unique artifact?

sidevalve..looks like the gorget broke and they was trying to salvage it by drilling new holes, and the damn thing cracked before they could finish the hole! i've noticed most of the broken gorgets i have seen have additional holes very near the break area, and not really in circumference to the piece. the other half should be very near the half you found, unless the indian got po'd and threw it when it cracked, like i do with stuff! LOL

Here's my most unique I'd say. A quad from White county Indiana.
Rare to see pointy ears. It's some where around two inches. I was
hunting with my grand father and dad that day. I must have been
around 10 years old. My dad wondered why I was hunting where
nothing was found before, but come to find out there was a dandy
there where it was lower from the ridge.

Here is a couple of hematite pieces that I have.

The first is a ball and the other is this strange rectangular unfinished piece. Not sure what It was going to be but it doesn't look natural.

Re: What's your most unique artifact?

Well, guys, my most unique is a greenstone "pecker" from a mound group out here close by. I'd take pics, but I'm afraid the post would be deleted. Matt, I'll bring it with me sometime to show you when I give you that big red busted pot I found last year.

Re: What's your most unique artifact?

Here is my most unique. You may have seen it as I've posted it here before. It's a pendant found by my family in SC Kentucky. In the second pic you can see where a dog/wolf has been carved.

Don't have a digi camera or scanner but a scraper for de-fleshing de-hairing. Flat oval hand sized rock. Think home made hamburger patty. Comfortable in the hand. Chipped on one side to provide sharp area for scraping.

Everyone's items are very interesting.

large breast plate, my guess is from a recycled dish/pot

Re: What's your most unique artifact?

Thanks for starting this post & thanks to everyone that have posted pictures, some really neat artifacts!

Re: What's your most unique artifact?

Very cool stuff, so far!!! I don't do much rock hunting anymore, but when I was a teenager I would spend hours excavating our garden and walking in farmer's fields. I've stumbled across some pretty unusual stuff... I'm going to post a few pictures. My daughter Riley really likes it when we "show off" our stuff. ;D ;D ;D I never had much luck finding any type of axe head, or at least I didn't think I did.

I found this first rock and thought it could be something since it appeared to have been grooved. It was damaged by years of plowing, but it's safe in my basement now...

I always thought the stone in the second picture was some type of hoe or tilling tool. I'm still not certain.

The third is probably my most curious find. It is a perfectly round stone except about 1/3 of one side is perfectly smooth and flat. I have no idea what this could be. ??? ??? ???

The last is my latest find... I was walking in a creek in KS. and looked down to find what looks like a mortar. The problem is the inside is not smooth as one would think. It has some very distinct grooves scratched into the bottom. I would really appreciate anyones best guess as to what the purpose of any, or all of these may be.

Riley and I await some very informed replies. By the way, Riley was the expert 7-year old detectorist that found the God and Country badge while using her Dad's detector...

Thanks for looking...

Saftgeek...

Re: What's your most unique artifact?

Let's try a different view of the first one...

PICT0458.JPG

It is definately grooved on two sides, just not what you'd think an axe would look like.
