What's worth more ?

Question what's worth more. Is it that impressive hammered gold coin I found the other week, or is it this rather dull looking hammered silver coin I found today. The head side is a lot better than the pictures and Say's the kings name Offa. Like the gold coin it needs to be straightened and cleaned. Please post answers to youluckysod.com.

Well done on the 'Offa' coin Rob - More impressive than the 'Canute' coin my mate showed me the other day! As for coins, I haven't gone further than the 20th century yet

I'm sure you realise that its pretty rare for them to get it wrong. They would not mess up an Offa, and the reason for recording it, is not for self interest but for the greater knowledge of these rare finds & the study of there distribution (for future mankind).

Never sell a good offa for a bad offa unless your offa is a bad offa and you were offa'ed a good offa.

Rare or not wrong is wrong in my book how can so called experts get it wrong I can understand getting the legend wrong because of blundered letters, but getting the monarch totally incorrect once bitten twice shy.

Never sell a good offa for a bad offa unless your offa is a bad offa and you were offa'ed a good offa.

These are the other finds from the Offa day. The thing in the middle is a drawer pull, they usualy are very plain this one is decorated. The buckle is Georgian and the coins are Roman.

I understand where you coming from, but even paid professional get things wrong. In the same way that keen amateurs get it right. Personally I would be more worried about correcting your entry of your coin on the EMC so as to get it right for future study. Because its keen people like us that us the resource & if its wrong then it may miss lead others. As you know its a preference thing & only voluntary, so its down to individuals.

Yeah, thats a variant of a common drawer pull that I have not seen before. Worth keeping.

I didn't know the meaning to the word "envy" until I got on this site and started seeing you Brits finds. We here in America are stunned when we find something from the 1700's and you old dogs find stuff that pre-dates Christ. It's not FAIR I tell ya!

yes finding these old coins is starting to get expensive . still cheered her up today, gave her 60 quid from a token I sold.

I didn't know the meaning to the word "envy" until I got on this site and started seeing you Brits finds. We here in America are stunned when we find something from the 1700's and you old dogs find stuff that pre-dates Christ. It's not FAIR I tell ya!

We are very,very lucky to detect in what basically is one giant museum.
