WHAT'S UP WITH MINELAB?

What number are you calling? Are you trying to reach corporate minelab or repair center?

silver chirp, yours is not the first observation on this problem. I have an Exp. II here that won't fire up, and I'd love to get it serviced to have as a spare (or sell used, etc...). But rumor has it that it will just languish in limbo. So it's cheaper to just buy another used machine it seems.

I have heard a lot of complaints about getting ahold of the MinelabUSA office to get warranty work RMA number. Personally, I have had very little problem the 3 or 4 times I have called them for work on several detectors.

I would suggest you call early in the morning, always worked for me.

Tom, Dave in repair center said they still work on them, owners just have to understand if it is bad mother board, keypad, or LCD screen it can't be repaired, no parts available, if it is bad wiring, cold solder joints, dirt on mother board it can be fixed.

They charge $37.50 to diagnose a detector, if it can be repaired and owners agree then that fee applies towards the repair, if not owner owes the diagnosis fee and return shipping.

Exp SE Pro is still supported by Minelab and some parts work on Exp SE...

That stinks. Hopefully etrac doesn't become that way where everything is obsolete.

I just had great service on my Excal II with Nadia.

They are required by law to support product for 7 years after production ends, Etracs are still being manufactured so your good. They stop making detectors when product line sales drop below being profitable to make, ETrac sales are still high...

Yay. That's good news for me. I remember that issue now that you said it when I use to rebuild and race vintage motoX I had issues with anything outdated that wasn't being reproduced and lucky for me I had a father in law with a machine shop. I almost wonder if the Explorer II product line is depleted since minelab has the rights to their mother boards but no longer manufacture them will another company be able to reproduce those

Minelab still owns the patents, someone making them would be violating patent laws, they want sell mother boards to non Minelab repair centers, if you get a new motherboard they keep old ones, just like a core trade in, you can't get new mother board with out trading in old board..

Oh dang well I guess you could always find another older unit and switch out parts or just buy a new minelab;)

unfortunately, some of those older models were built extremely well and very rarely break down. That means lots of used models for sale which means fewer new sales so models get discontinued. Those older Minelabs are still great machines!

I called the KellyCo ML repair center, left messages and emails... no answer. So after 2 weeks, I called the Customer care number listed above, got the receptionist and told her my dilemma, and she got me Marty at KellyCo ML repair. he then answered my questions.

That might be the route you need to take to get your machine in for repair.

Best of luck.

If you need warranty work, you have to call the minelab number. If you don't get an RMA (Return authorization) number the repair center won't be doing any warranty work. Now, if you want to pay for the work yourself (no warranty left) then call the repair center directly

The repair center will work on warranty detectors without RMA #, but it is better to have RMA #s to track repairs while detector is under warranty.

thats new to me! I guess if I have trouble contacting Minelab next time, I'll just call the repair center direct

Marty was extremely helpful when I needed some warranty repair work. The only problem I ran into was the USPS using the box I shipped my detector in for a football! Use FedEx!

Martys the man if he can't do it no one can
