Re: ??? what the #@%&*!

Given everything I've seen to date on this one, I'm gonna cast my vote with Mojjax: Control lever for a wood stove (brooder heater) temperature control.

1) Found in a barn - that (IMHO) gives it at least a 75% probability of being farm related (as opposed to household ornamentation)

2) TWO of them found in the barn - the likelihood of them being a mis-placed non-farm item just went down again

3) The functional configuration aligns extremely well with the close-up (fulcrum @ end, linkage in slotted hole, wafer 'thermostats' under the 'ears'

4) Too lightweight to be a pedal off of farm machinery - farmers and their kids are not gentle on equipment and that castin wouldn't last a day in the field.

K, it could work this way, but I have a set of identical leather punches in back. I used one of them to make shotgun wads out of cardboard for reloading.

Re: ??? what the #@%&*!

Ornamental shelf support.
With a spring added to Michelle's earlier drawing it could be a rat trap.
Victorian Fly Swatter.
Target from a old shooting gallery.
I'm still thinking.
Something that fits on an old cast iron stove?
A piece of cast iron with no use?
Early paint agitator?
>:( ;D ??? ??? ???

Still thinking!!!

Re: ??? what the #@%&*!

According to my father, it's a kerosene fired chicken brooder heater.

Here's a shot with the lower half swung out 180 degrees to show the thermostatic wafers..........

And here's a close-up of the linkage where movement of the lower arm pulls on a lever that raises and lowers the burner end of the rig:

I have 2 guesses : Maybe it's part of a mechanical seed planter .

or: Part of a coal stove that was attached to a chicken incubator
with an automatic flue .
