Hi all,a few questions concerning a coin i found not to long ago. It is a 1921d mercury dime. Ive included pictures.

1. Is it that rare of a coin to have slabbed?

2. Are these coins "sellable"?

3. If they are sellable any ideas what a coin in this condition would bring.

Thank you for any responses. Im trying to fund some new equipment and normally wouldnt sell anything I find. In the process of getting our first house so money is scarce.

Yes, send it to PCGS and have them slab the coin. That date and coin, 1921D Mercury is worth quite a bit. The coin in the picture is pretty worn, but could bring $100 or more, depending on the grade. If it's a full bands, it's worth even more. Would be hard to tell though.

Just my opinion, the obverse would grade G, the reverse AG. With a retail of $50 in AG $85 in G. Fully Split Bands is only relevant t0 higher grade coins, the bands are gone on this one! Even in lower grade this is a semi key date and quite popular, you would have to decide if the cost of slabbing is worth it compared to what you may get from the coin.

Thanks for the replies. How much approximately do they charge to grade and slab?

It would not be worth it to slab that coin. If you want to sell it, put it up on Ebay and you will get around $50 for it. Or just keep it. If you have to certify it, send it to PCI. They are much cheaper and you do nmot need a membership.

ICG is among the top companies out there and their prices are pretty good , and their reputation is even better.

If you decide to get it done Grading can sometimes double the price of a coin.

Sometimes.

Nice find!

Be careful how you handle it. In fact, don't handle it if you can help it. If you must, hold it by the edge. Make sure your hands are clean, but don't clean the coin!

You've really got yourseld a nice coin, ryaan. Treat it well.
