What MD pinpointer is best - why?

Actually, my 13 year old XLT will pinpoint so well that I just pull the trigger and move it around till it indicates dead center. I then insert my probe dead center in the coil and touch the target. It doesn't get much simpler than that. Frank...-

$16, that's why.

Don't forget to add in shipping if you don't live within driving distance to HF. If it was me and I wanted to get one of these $16 pointers(and I did want one in the beginning), I would buy two in order to have a backup on a $16 pointer, especially if I had to go out of my way to get a new one. On the shipping issue though. I seem to remember that shipping was close to 30% of the retail on this thing, adding in sales tax and all. I went straight to the Garretts and paid the price back then and have been happy.

What happens when it is a deeper target or rocky site. Old coins are pretty much never shallow here, what you describe would work for shallow clad but not for deeper older coins. If you can go and pop out old coins that way you live in a rare place.

Replaced pro pointer with TRX and it has advantages... Wish it had a potentiometer on the butt instead of a button to adjust sensitivity... It is so sensitive that it can take several button pushes to desensitize it... I like analog detectors with knobs too. As a matter of fact the pro pointer would benefit from a pot to desensitize it too!

Sunray. No separate batteries, it will use the detector's existing headphones and TDI. You never leave it home and it never slips out of you pack unnoticed to be lost. Clips to the detector's shaft so it's easy to carry.

It's like a 1" sniper coil for your detector.

The $16 HF has a sensitivity knob! Frank...-hand print-2_edited-5.jpg

The sun ray is nice when you use it, but it is dead weight on your swinging arm the rest of the time. Frank...-

I have a Bounty Hunter PP, I hate it, weak sensitivity, weak vibration and very weak tone. I also have a $25 model with sensitivity, no vibration, has worked well for me and make life so much easier.
Just recieved my Garrett PP and tested it on the beach yesterday..............Senstaional. Tested in wet black sand and needed to desensatise, so easy to do and worked flawlessly there too.

I'm waiting for the HF $16 pointer now. To my door it's$25.66. We'll see about quality later.

holy crap you spent way to much.. after you buy a switch next week you will be into it for $30 and they are barely worth $15 when working!.. Yes I have one!

Hay, the HF does the same thing for a lot less cost and it has adjustable sensitive. Yea, the switches are low quality I admit, but a good replacement from Radio Shack only cost about $2 and is easy to replace. It is far easier to mod than any other except the early bulleyes from Whites. I have added a bright blue LED that lights when It locates. You can't do that with a PP, in fact you can't even fix a PP. I've had the Garret for several years now and really like it. My only problem with it is that it tends to roll down hill when I'm hunting sloped areas! I've had to go chase it a few times!

Mine is better than yours no matter which one I am using. ........... Sound familiar. Go to Youtube and watch a few vids and google comparisons then call one of our vendors who sells several brands and ask for their input. Weigh what you have learned and drop the hammer. Best of luck.

I went to a vendor to order a trx and he tried talking me into a garrett propointer. Having already been through two that went bad right away the last thing I wanted was another.

I must live in a rare place, Maryland. I have never seen a coin over 10" deep. Other small objects, but no coins. I can't really imagine coins being deep in rocky soil. For one thing there is usually little decayed vegetation to cover them.
Now as for depth, my detector tells me how deep they are so I dig the ones that are over app. 6".
I have detected in most of the 48 states so I have seen all kinds of soil, rock, swamp, etc.

I own and have used the Gpp, Minelab, RS, Kellyco Vulcan and TRX. I would put the TRX far out in the lead with the Vulcan as second and minelab third RS fourth and the Gpp last. I was very happy using the Vulcan until the TRX came out and I was lucky enough to acquire a very early unit. The TRX is my primary unit and the Vulcan is backup. The last place rating of the single function Gpp has more to do with its tendency to fail and have to be returned for repair or replacement In my case I had to spend the $14 shipping and ins. twice and when the final (third) unit began to show its flakiness it got shelved for ever. None of my other brand units have yet to fail. The TRX and Vulcan both have some long hours of very hard use.

I have a Vulcan and I love it. It's very sturdy and does a great job.

I referring to your comment of use a probe and touching a coin. Seems like that lends its self to shallow coins in soft ground. I've tried to pop deeper coins as in 6 to 8 and always have to just dig a small plug.
