Dr. This topic has been hashed out in a number of threads and the answer seems to be very simple.

Whites TRX because it is just superior in function.

I recently purchased the White's TRX. I have used the Propointer, Profinder and TRX.

Out of them all, I prefer the Propointer, but I have three and I have had problems with two of them. The TRX seems like a very good pinpointer, but it has some issues, but I am still getting used to it. If I had to "point" someone in the right direction, I would steer them to the White's, but you can't go wrong with a Propointer, especially if you get a good one for under $100. If it is under a year old, Garrett will fix it.

Here is a link talking about the TRX. You can trust Evan and his opinion. I agree with his evaluation and would like to add, that the TRX is longer and thicker then the Garrett Propointer. In some cases there is a wait list to buy one. I called Kellyco a couple of weeks ago and they had a 20+ person list waiting, and I managed to get the last one from someone who I purchase from. I would suggest you contact Barts at Big Boys Hobbies.

I have garrett, minelab, and the white's. I like the white's best and have had no problem with the minelab but have had two garretts fail. I believe it is time for garrett to go back to the drawing board.

what about the new one by Kellyco- any comments on it?

I own and have used the Gpp, Minelab, RS, Kellyco Vulcan and TRX. I would put the TRX far out in the lead with the Vulcan as second and minelab third RS fourth and the Gpp last. I was very happy using the Vulcan until the TRX came out and I was lucky enough to acquire a very early unit. The TRX is my primary unit and the Vulcan is backup. The last place rating of the single function Gpp has more to do with its tendency to fail and have to be returned for repair or replacement In my case I had to spend the $14 shipping and ins. twice and when the final (third) unit began to show its flakiness it got shelved for ever. None of my other brand units have yet to fail. The TRX and Vulcan both have some long hours of very hard use.

I've just ordered a Garrett Pro Pointer, can't wait to try it out

Just like which is the best metal detector, there is no best pin pointer..... what-people-say-is-a-reflection-of-them-taking-things-personally-quote-help-me-find-love1.png...Learn to pin point with your coil and you will never need a pin pointer. Spend your money on other things.

It is wonderful that you are so truly blessed with talent. I am afraid there are still a few of us out there that still like to have yet another little tool in our bag to assist us in our hunt for that elusive dirt colored find. I can eat a meal with just a spoon but there are times that the knife and fork would make that task a little more pleasant.

HA! So you are that guy I saw at the Golf Course Putting with his Driver! However I think I would rather use the specialty tool for the job.

The Garret ProPointer has never failed me. And I have abused it. Rain, mud, sand, etc. Peace

I recently picked up a Vulcan 360 and got to use it for the first time this past weekend. I am new to detecting and never used a pinpointer before. Initially I was going to get the cheaper Harbor Freight Cen-tech but decided to splurge on the Vulcan instead. I must say that the Vulcan really impressed me. I was detecting on a freshwater beach in damp sand and it worked great! I put a piece of tape over the speaker to keep debris out of it since the speaker location is in a bad spot. I did not mind the few seconds it takes to turn on as others have mentioned in the forum. I started out at sensitivity level 3 and that was working well. There were a few targets I could hit with the Compadre but the Vulcan wasn’t finding anything, so I turned up the sensitivity level and then I was able to get some beeps and find the direction of the target in the hole. If I didn’t have the Vulcan I’d still probably be sifting sand trying to find those targets. I would definitely recommend it so far. Now we’ll see how durable it is in the long run.

Garret pro pointer. It's the best, no explain action needed!

Could it possibly be that "explain action" refer to it being the best at failure and having to be returned for repair?

Ok...I've priced some of these....without breaking the bank, is there an economical pin-pointer or a site to purchase 2nd hand pin-pointers that work?

papa, just look under sponsoring vendors here and most all can help you.

IMO. I used to swear the Garrett was the best...... until I got a TRX. They are both good products and you can't screw up by choosing either.

I never had a pin pointer on my Whites 6000, and dug some larger holes at times. When I use my mxt, I have a Sunray probe mounted on it. The Sunray works off the electronics in the machine, so when checking the hole, I can turn the gain way up and get more distance/depth looking for the target. The only problem is you have to remember to turn the gain back, and remember to flip the switch when you start detecting again, and it seems like I forget to do that at least once per trip. The Sunray also works on my dfx, but is a pain to switch over, so I have a less expensive White's pin pointer that came from Kellyco when I purchased the machine, and it seems to work OK. It's got a small light that shines in the hole, and vibrates, so it works well with ear phones on. I'm hard of hearing, so I have high dollar phones that really seal outside noise, so I like the vibrate feature. The Sunray works through my ear phones, which is great. I bought the dfx because of it's dual circuits, and the ability for it to seamlessly go from wet to dry on salt water beaches, other than that, I use the mxt with the Sunray most of the time.
