I know quite a few men who are afraid of harmless snakes too.
Fear is not the motivation..when mama duck comes outside with fuzzy little ducklings following behind her brain starts scanning for threats..if one is detected she then moves into the eliminate threat mode...it's is so deep in her DNA that she is powerless to stop any actions that would go against the concept of " protecting her youngat no cost is too high Not trying to be gender racist or excluding but it's a force I think only women can understand

Help them? Who said anything about helping them?

Fear is a weakness. Cold determination and channeled anger is a strength. Put them in a hot car with 20 snakes and let them work it out amicably. If they were non-venomous then it was just a silly exercise.

If they were venomous? OK, so future monkeys using your gene pool whaddmay benefit. Tool users - we have other means to avoid snakes. Like opening the car door and leaving. ;-)
Charming fella you are. Talk about gene pools and a lack of depth.

I call this dead snake now but what kind was he before he lost his head?

I do not understand why people kill snakes, if they did not do anything to you why would you do something to them. One time I was detecting and I found a baby rattler and he let me get within 2 feet to take a picture of him, they are not blood thirsty monsters like people think they are, if you say the only good snake is a dead snake would you say the same thing about dogs and cats? They both have brains and hearts and are capable of doing the same things. And just to let you know, more dogs kill people annually than rattlesnakes do. There is no need to kill any type of snake much less non venomous snakes, what are they going to do to you? Give you a small bite that does not break the skin. I am done with people killing snakes!!! Is is ridiculous!

Spiders and bees kill more people annually than snakes do.

I stopped posting when I was drinking for the same reason. It's embarrassing to read what you wrote when you are sober.

So I came across 2 rattlesnakes the other day. One crawled under a rock as soon as I approached. I missed out on a great photo op because the rattler was afraid of me.

This friendly little adorable rattlesnake was found a couple miles from my house. I'm sure if I was out in my field with my Chihuahua and came across him and he was hungry he would just say aw that Chihuahua is too cute to eat I'll just scurry away. At over 8 ft he could eat a 4 lb dog

I know this may be hard to accept but snakes don't have human emotions they don't enjoy life ...they survive. If some armed person came on my property and towards me and mine in a threatening manner I would also eliminate the threat so I'm not just hating on slimy gross snakes

I
It's a hard call to judge Bates actions , If it was one of the few Poisonous snakes in GA (N & South GA ) are very Different.

If it was big & even a Rat Snake & living under her house & say she has 3 little ones , Cat's , Poultry etc.
A good Man to relocate would be nice.

Knowledge is power and knowing what type of snake you have before killing it helps , I find it hard to believe (or maybe not) that She could not tell a Garter snake from a rattler.

As I was saying before if a danger to people or pets it had to go 'best somewhere else' but???

Bates please learn you animal & insect types & their way's ; heck you may actually like them afterward.

I like most snakes more than strangers but in reality I need to take the time to know a person.

Yes I'm a Tree Hugger.

As I said South GA is a different story .

Id be wearing THICK Snake boots when wandering the Farms & Wood's Down there or SC Low Country / FL . S, AL , MS.

Even these Monsters have their place but everytime I see a picture in Ga Outdoor News or the one you posted I think , DAM!
One Less , I def, would not want a Giant EDB like that around my home. I would try to relocate still , too bad Guy's like the Crocodile Hunter 'R.I. P.' are not a dime a dozen .

Wild Boar are a Bigger problem down there.

also I'm wondering if the Eastern Diamond Back Snake is not endangered.

IMO Each county should have a Guy/Gal or 3 to come out and move them.

That snake is not 8 feet!!! 53 inches is just slightly over 4 feet! The way they took that picture is just a camera trick, they stick the snake closer to the camera and stand further back to make it look bigger. And snakes at only 4 feet only eat mice and smaller rodents, I doubt it could swallow a Chihuahua!! Snakes at 10+ feet only eat rabbits and smaller rodents also.
