Me I think I am mainly a pocket hunter..I love hard packed gravel! I never used a dredge or a highbanker everything I have done so far is man power. my brother on the other hand, hardly ever touches gravel he spends most of his time looking for hairline fractures and cracks..I prefer to average my gold daily so to speak where my brother is looking for a nice crack to pay for his day..I will admitt he has had some awesome cracks but on the other hand I rarely get skunked where sometimes it can be days before he turns up sumtin of worth..The first vid is of an Island bar that I have done well in over the last years the second is of my brothers kind of prospecting.. I was just curious on what kind of prospecting you all engage in?

A BROKE ONE!

Yeah it seems me too most of the time.....lucky for me that I don't wish for riches...I am content just biening in the outdoors dreaming of a day when our society turns from monetary gain and pursues a more respectable course(not living and dying just to make a dollar)

I shoot for Broke even. 10 miles round trip in a little car. About a dollar in gold from the creek with my sluice.

The terrain determins the mode of prospecting and recovery for me. That said, as of yet I have never hardrocked mined.

I just love anything to do with the outdoors and will make any excuse to to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. I have recently taken a sabbatical from work to be a full time dad to my 13 month old daughter....and it IS full time! The only time I have to go out is after my wife comes home from work or on the weekends.

I have only taken up gold prospecting in the past 2 months and on the Island we have tons of streams and rivers for exploring and most are accessible by logging road.

I wanted to say that I don't think it would be half as enjoyable if I hadn't found this forum and all of you! I have never been shown anything and have had to learn everything from youtube and you guys, so thank you! You guys make prospecting more than just a hobby.

PS. We just found out that bun #2 is in the oven! :)

I like sluicing & panning..... The last thing I want to hear out on the creek is the sound of a motor.

Congrats on baby2! ...and on joining a very 21st C. trend of hands on, stay at home dads; I see a fair amount of that these days :-)
Good luck getting gold and have fun, before you know it you'll be handing a finishing pan to that daughter!!

Good job being home with your kids.... I did the 6 week family leave thing when we adopted a 6 mon old baby....Best thing I ever did but to be honest I was ready to go back to work...lol Anyone who thinks a stay home mom with little ones is easy has never done it. I can see where a little gold prospecting after mom gets home will settle your nerves.
