This item was found near a Centurion Homestead. It was very rusty so I ran it in a tumbler for a couple days. It cleaned up well but, I have no idea what it's for.
The ends were threaded, they are almost gone, and it is cast iron or cast steel. I don't think it is a stirrup or spur. Any ideas? :icon_scratch:

Got any pics of any shades Breezie? Never thought of that!

Here's a pic of a floor lamp I have, and the 2 yellow arrow areas slide/lock into the base. On your item, the bracket at the top could have held a bar for 2 more lights or a heavy shade. :) Breezie

Makes sense Breezie, I always thought it had something to do with furniture or something in that nature (like a lamp) the piece is got a certain decorative design too it as if it was going to get looked @ a lot.. Hope someone can 100% ID it, these are the ones that can make yah sit there for long time guessing.

I'm not sure if this item is part of a lamp, but it has the spur/stirrup shape that is found in most vintage lamps. Here's a few Victorian lamps I found on Google. :) Breezie

Wow! You guys are amazing! Breezie that's the closest idea that makes sense so far. After a much closer look at those "threads", I have to agree they may be "push-fit" grooves and one hole is slightly larger than the other but, I can see no sign of threads.
I also did an exhaustive search of sewing machines and parts, no luck. I'm gonna look at some lamps. Thanks for the help, it's highly appreciated. :occasion14:

Paleopilot, you're welcome. As I said in an earlier post, I'm not sure if this is an oil lamp frame or not, but whenever I'm researching an unknown item like this, I go with what looks to be the most logical first. The stirrup/spur shaped metal frame has been used in lamps for over a 100 years; some more ornate than others. BUT, just because it is that shape doesn't necessarily mean it is true. Hopefully we can find a pic with the top similar to yours. :) Breezie

You might also review boat and carriage hardware. It resembles an oar-lock. The part that was pinned could have been attached to swivel and served numerous purposes on a sailboat.

almost looks like the bracket portion of a double pulley, except the wider forks are configured wrong to facilitate a pivot bolt. I looked at a whole bunch, but couldn't find one with that configuration... This was perhaps the closest; Antique Period House Fittings | Antique Architectural Ironmongery | Antique Brass Pulley's
If you fashioned a plate with sleeves to go over the forks, then some decoritive acorn nuts to hold it on it would make a swell boot scraper.... Creskol, could you design one for us?
