What is your weird ebay story for the week?

That's fine. I just threw my system out there for public consumption. If someone finds it useful - great. I'm not in a huge hurry to get paid so I can afford to wait. Besides, very few people don't pay within 3 days and the few that don't almost always pay after the first reminder. For those very few who never pay, they get reported to ebay and a case opened against them. Given the number of notices and the amount of time they have been given to pay up, they don't have a leg to stand on when ebay looks into the situation.

I had a guy buy $1,000 worth of stuff and it took him an entire year to pay me in full!

I don't disagree with your opinion, Ironpatch. I do agree that a willingness to be bend for a buyer is key.

I am seeing how this could only be a line in the sand and it may be a hopeless crusade to try and get buyers to abide by it.

Just to clarify though, this buyer could not afford the item at time of purchase. They requested additional time to acquire the funds. The only real issue I have with this is that I have posted up front that if you win the auction pay within 48 hours. The buyer didn't contact me prior to bidding to make sure it's okay, they did it after yanking the item out of someone else's hands. It's a bit strange to ask when at this point I really have no choice but to go along with it.

Like I said, perhaps it is a hopeless effort to obtain only bidders who will abide by posted terms. Since its just a hobby I'm not worried about it, but it is still a learning experience.

Oh boy! Your stories take the cake! I am laughing here.

I had a buyer buy a $13 bracelet. Sent it off the next day. Two weeks later ebay cancels the auction because the buyer is no longer a registered user. HUH? What does that mean? Last week I get an email from Pay Pal that the buyers credit card copy issued a refund because her card was stolen.

I called Pay Pal furious. (OK, it's only $13, but it's the principle of the matter.) I told them that I shipped it within 24 hours like my auctions states. It went to the PP users address, not someone else. IF SOMEONE STOLE HER CARD, WHY WERE ALL THE PACKAGES MAILED TO HER HOUSE???? I did check her feedback. She went nuts those two weeks, buying tons of jewelry. My guess is she thought she would get it all for free. Fat chance. PP gave me the money back right away, and they are going to fight the CC company. She said I was 100% right and I have seller protection. Makes me feel real safe now. My friend used to have a multi-million dollar business online selling mother-daughter outfits. She sent someone $400 worth of clothes. They claimed it never came. PP refunded the money. She had delivery confirmation, and she still lost. I was worried that this was still going to be the case, but I guess PP is better now.

Dumpsterdiver, I have a pasta machine. (2 actually). The attachment makes the pasta in different sizes. I get why they are asking, because it makes a difference. Although "soup noodles" is rather vague. I sometimes use my vermicelli attachment, and sometimes my linguine. It's very personal, depending on what you consider "soup noodles".

Tallone ... THAT is so funny!!!!! I Loved your reply on how to return it. I was not as nice when the doofus asked me how to do it.

Jason4skate ... seriously? $0.99???? Some people need to get a life. That takes the cake, really!

Oh, just thought of this one.

Several years ago I bought a large token lot. Only paid on average about a dollar a piece, and there was a lot of them, so it was a great deal. About three weeks after my purchase I was listing them steady and they were doing well, and one particular night I sold one for $25, to someone who looked familiar... It was the guy I bought them from! :laughing7: Can you say pictures and descriptions count!

oh damn, I have more than I thought, and I'm going to win this right now! :laughing7: Not sure if I want to type it out at the moment, but will put it on soon. It's a pretty good one.

I bought a Presidium Duotester at auction on Monday, Jan. 21 for $249.99, paid immediately. The seller messages me 2 days later and says he just started a new job and can't ship it until Saturday the 26th. Okay, I understand, I can wait I told him. Saturday rolls around and goes right by. Guess what? No shipping info. or tracking number uploaded yet. I've messaged him twice since then and didn't get a single response. Meanwhile it's Tuesday and he still hasn't shipped the item, if he has, he hasn't provided me with any tracking info.. In the meantime, I purchased another one from another seller (for $50 less even). I will be getting a refund from the first seller, one way or another. New job or not, this dude has had over a week to ship a single item, I've been working 7 days a week doth day and night 10-12 hours per, and still managed to ship out my items last week. The least he could have done was messaged me back if there was a problem. He will definitely be getting negative feedback and I will probably have to open a case to get my money back. P.O.S. seller.

Iron Patch, the story about the guy buying the exact item he sold you is priceless!

I had a lady who purchased an old perfume bottle contact me and was she was furious.
Apparently she was upset because it smelled like perfume! I let her return it and then blocked her

That's awesome! :laughing7: P.T. "There's a Sucker Born Every Minute" Barnum was right.

This one happened a few months ago. I was trolling Ebay UK for Olympic Stuff (I am an Olympic Collectible specialist, and will be leaving Saturday for a month in Russia). One seller JUST put up a hand full of badges from the estate of an Athlete from the 1908 Olympics. These were GREAT items, I asked him what he wanted for them as a lot, and he answered within SECONDS, he wanted 500 pounds ($775) for everything. I immediately wrote back that I would take them (easy $2000). He had just gone off line, When he came back all of the items had bids, so he said he didn't want to cancel the bids, so I would have to win the items... They went on to sell for about 45,000 pounds. We exchanged Emails and had a few Laughs about it... Good for him. Not so good for me. He found them at an estate sale and paid 100 pounds for the box. To say he was happy was more than an understatement. he was a retired teacher (as I hope to be one day). he made more that week than he did in any 2 years teaching...

Here's another, but not my best yet.

I had an Explorer II listed at auction, it was before the SE, so was the Minelab to own. The winning bidder was from the UK but didn't have Paypal so I agreed he could mail me the payment. About 2 weeks past and I got a little box in the mail, seen it was from the UK and thought why not just send a money order in an envelope... weird. Then I opened the box and there was $1,000 in American $20s. Now you want to talk about trust! And I guess risk. He took that risk because with UK detector prices higher he thought he could flip it, but in the end he either broke even or lost money because customs crushed him with very high fees bringing it in.

Ok here's my number 1.

A decade ago it wasn't like today where everyone had Paypal so it wasn't uncommon for me to get half my payments through regular mail. It was surprising to me at the time how many would send cash, and once I realized the success rate I too started sending cash for my own purchases for sellers who had no Paypal. It worked out well because I would buy a lot International and they didn't tend to want my Canadian money, but sending USD was ok, and I always had several hundred hanging around from my sales.

So one day I bought something from a seller in England, and he didn't have PP but agreed he would accept American cash. It was only like $30 so I grabbed a $20 and two $5s and mailed it off. About two weeks later I get a message from him saying he went to the bank and the teller determined one (or both) of the $5s was a counterfeit, and they called them "dodgy." :laughing7: I wrote back making a joke because I found it hilarious that someone would counterfeit a five dollar bill, plus the word dodgy just struck me funny. So the next day I received a reply and he was just livid! He said the bank called the police, and the police went to his house and seized his computer for 4 days to make sure he wasn't a counterfeiter! Like many, his world revolved around a computer and it was just killing him, and he sure was not happy with me, or my American counterfeit $5! :)

I don't think there's much you can do except to keep calling his pawn shop until he keeps his word. It's too late for Ebay or Paypal claims.

I understand that.. But cant you place a lawyer or something or someone whole look into the case and blaim him for my lateness instead of me since he gave me the permisson to . Thats how i see it ; if he would had explain otherwise i would have resend it even paying the 100 dollars. So i can go on ebay sell a messed up item for a good one then tell him a excuses of why not to send it before the giving time and make money on it ? Never knew that ..

Unfortunately the way ebay is set up is to make the buyer pay to send an item back to the seller. I know your frustration because this has also happened to me for items I bought International. It seems like it would have been better to pay the $100 to get your money back than to trust a crook twice. It's not a good idea to extend a deal too long because now you can't file a claim, and that is the reason his story changed.

This is dirty.. I thought maybe buying online could actually be a little safer..

Dude sell me something messed up for good then make another sweet lie for i can get jerk.

Last week I sold a briefcase for $51.00 - after the sale I went back to view my listing - under the "condition " part , it said this -
Item condition:
Pre-owned

“THE BRIEFCASE HAS SEVERAL SCRATCHES & SCUFF MARKS FROM USE &#38. UNDERNEATH THE HANDLE THERE IS A ”

I have no idea where the ampersand pound 38 came from ?
Then yesterday , I was checking out a Navy belt & buckle and the guy has the same &#38 in his item condition .
here is a link to it - Looks Old Vintage Naval Officer Leather Belt Eagle Buckle Must S | eBay
so I guess it's not just me .

Update. They are now going to talk to owner tomorrow and they said they forgot all about the metal detector and couldnt pull up any messages of them agreeing to that i could send it in at this time. I have now send them the old emails to refresh their memory and hopefully ill return it as normal.
