What is ur best find EVER?

Id say DeKalbs got me beat! lol Ive been detecting about 5 months now, no silver coins yet but 16 rings, a few nice pendants, couple watches. But my best find is an 1897 Liberty "V" Nickel found in my own backyard! House was built in the 1950's & it was only an inch or two deep, so I dont know how it got there.

my almost best find was this overstruck 1788 Connecticut copper bust facing right. if the condition wasn't in such crummy shape I'm told it would have been quite valuable since it is a relatively rare variety and because its an error coin.

Good post!

That last line is great: "my best TH'ing find is always coming the next time I go out!!"

My best find was peace of mind.

Badger

That's an awesome large cent. I have yet to find one. I have to settle for this as my best find, for now.

It's a Union Civil War Breastplate. I found it in my yard.

My BEST "find" was something that I bought on eBay. Saw a piece of jewelry that looked old and might be gold, so I asked the seller if she would do a Buy It Now price on it. She sold it to me for $90.00. It had belonged to an aunt who had died in 1967, and had been "stored up in the attic with all of her belongings".

When I received the piece I was told by many people to have it professionally looked at. I sent it to a appraiser of historical jewelry in New York, and to make a very long story very short, he dated it to 1670-1720, Spanish in orgin, foiled-back quartz, 22+ solid gold, with an "Estimated Insurance Replacement Value" of $17,300.
Of course I NEVER told the seller this, and watch her auctions like a hawk, but nothing remotely interesting ever appeared in her auctions again. I will forever wonder how her deceased aunt came upon this "treasure".

By the way, the appraiser stated that this piece had never been in the ocean, because it "showed no signs of ever being submerged in water".

I forgot to add the size. It is large.....and weighty....a little under 3 inches tall and roughly 2 1/4 inches wide. 40 grams of 22k+.

WOW!!! That IS a best find if I've ever heard of one!! Are the stones anything real?

Cub, I was hoping for diamonds or emeralds, but they are "colored foiled-back clear quartz". In otherwords, when the stones are taken out of their settings, they are actually just a clear faceted quartz, but in the settings are tiny colored pieces of foil that give the stones their "color".

Did the 15th-16th Century Spanish "cheat" like that when crafting their jewelry? Its a beautiful piece. I hope you do well if you ever sell it.

Mine would have to be 32 silver coins I recoverd on a CW battlefield. All found within 15 ft of one another along with a "squared up" 3 ringer. I guess that during the heat of battle someone lost there "poke" along with their goodluck piece...d2
