It's about 3 1/2" in diameter. Has a stand on the bottom with a loop, like for hanging? I think it was made of copper but might be wrong. The surface is not smooth but rather bumpy and relief on some places. There are 5 drilled holes at the top.
Thanks in advance

Darn sure interesting, been to several county fairs and a couple of goat roping's, never seen nothing like it.

A lamp base? Any images explaining how the rest of the lamp is mounted to that base? I cannot imagine what can go into those 5 holes?

I was thinking the four holes around the centre hole could hold the top piece, and the centre hole for the cable...Just a thought.

It could be the base part of a vintage copper weather vane. Interesting find, Breezie

3.5 inches is much too small for a lamp base, IMO. I think this is an incense burner. Does the base screw open at all?

Nothing screws. It's one piece. The hook on the bottom makes me thing a string or something is supposed to go in there. And maybe a weight on the other end , just like the sea mines? But it's too small to be a marine explosive.

Is the "smooth yet bumpy relief" reminiscent of continents.
Like a globe shape?

I know you mentioned "globe" in the title, but have we determined that this is a globe shape?
I can't really tell from the pics.

Maybe some sort of oddball bell clapper? They're usually solid but with that heavy base maybe it doesn't need to be. The holes have got me buffaloed. It looks like a salt shaker or incense burner but if it doesn't come apart, how would you load it? And why the loop on the bottom? Hopefully someone has seen one like it and can post a solution.

You know, at one point i thought the raised areas looked to me like the continents. But then i started having doubts. I will upload more pics later but its hard to catch the whole surface in a single image so you can get a better idea.
