Hi, This is my first post and hope I am doing this correctly. Anyway, I found this stone during this past summer doing a food plot for deer. We have land in central Minnesota just south of Mille-lacs lake. My son and I were disking a Field and I just happen to look down and picked this stone up. It almost looks like a cows head with a circle around it and lines through it. My son says I'm crazy! Any idea's what is it? Thanks, Old guy55 ??? ???

Welcome to the net. The stone is natural. Most of the black coating is eroded off. The coating is deposited while in the ground.

Now, meteorites also have a similar looking coating from burning on the way to the ground (shooting star). If the stone is attracted by a magnet get someone to test it for nickel. Iron and nickel in the same stone USUALLY means it is a meteorite. I take my suspected meteorites to the Univ. of WI to the geology museum. The professor that runs it tests them for me.

Good luck.

Could be an "effigy"......
LOL!!!

Honestly, I can see what you're seeing as well, but if it were man-made, I would almost expect to see the head carved into the stone, rather than the surrounding material removed.

I saw it immediately too! I don't think you're crazy..... I say it's a keeper whether natural or not. Oh, by the way, welcome to T-net!

I see what you see, it's really cool! I'd put a hole in it and make a necklace out of it. I once took a stone that looked like a goldfish and made an ankle braclet for my son, he'a been wearing it for 5 years and loves it! Nice find.....
