I'm still here. I was thinking about that myself a few days ago. That's what I was thinking when I said it might have had a piece of cloth through it because of the size being so small.Just can't find any close examples. It's possible.Good idea.Wonder what it's made of?DigEmAll said:Just a thought here guys, but this thing is just slightly larger than a quarter, and doesn't look beefy enought to be an anything buckle.
It does however look like the medalion for one of the ribbon choker necklaces that ladies wore tied around their necks in the later 1800's after the high neck dresses started going away.
Kinda like this one only more simple.
Wondered that myself....people need to be more involved with their stuff here....anyway my thoughts also about the size of the buckle and also the way it would be attached as if from behind (the strap or belt would slide through the back...under and into the other side.)....What about the powder flask/ horn buckle?diggummup said:I'm still here. Better yet-Gee,wonder what happened to the poster of this thread? Don't ya just hate that?
What if it were Scottish or German or some other fancy military group? Even repro?INDIAN WARS PATTERN OFFICER'S sword belt bucklediggummup said:Powderhorn strap? Another possiblity, not many would have been fancy though in battle on the field. If used on a strap for either horn or flask, would think it too fancy for battlefield.Course, who says it was used in battle, right.Could of been used in place of the metal ring on this one:
