" I dont have pictures but hawks were being found dead all along the road where I work last December. One was brought into my check station by a tourist half dead and it went to a place to try and save it."

This made me giggle, If you have seen the movie Tommy Boy you might understand why.
No I didnt but I may have to check it out.

I googled "tommy boy" and "dead hawk" but nothing came up so I dont understand. ;D :dontknow:

They hit a deer and then put it in the backseat. the deer was just knocked out and when it came to it tore the car to pieces. I could imagine someone picking a dazed hawk up and what would happen when it came to.

From my past experiences or in better words, what I've seen. I spied a chicken hawk on the ground as I was riding across the pasture it seemed to have been struggling with something, as I got closer it took off & in his talons was a gray squirrel. Away it flew with the squirrel's tail flapping in the wind. Other times, I would be riding the fence lines and see snakes (small ones) caught on the top row stuck in the barb...still have not figured out which bird does that.

Fox squirrels - we have red and also black nothing like the one posted above. imagesCAXJK6YH.jpg untitled (2).jpg these pics are from www, I simply loved the black fox squirrel we had here a few years back, he was almost tame. Too many gray squirrels will chase the foxes away.

Have you considered coyotes? or grey fox? We have them both here and they will haul off a chicken quick...I punished my own dog for killing a guinea (I thought he did), but when I found feathers out across the side pasture, I figure my dog interrupted a coyote or fox and they dropped it and the dog brought the body to my yard.

Butcher birds hang snakes and lizards

Coyotes and fox's are not going to stick around either....they pack em off.I have been in the predator control buss. for about 30 years now

@tomjiggy. You would do well to read the Migratory Bird Act. And anyone who would read this post and consider catching a hawk or other bird, you too would do well to read the Migratory Bird Act. This is not South Korea people. Carry on.

The Southern Fox Squirrel is only/mainly found in Florida. There is a Northern Fox squirrel, but it is smaller and not as brightly colored. They are fairly large about like a cat, way bigger than a grey squirrel.

When I posted my initial response I was trying to find a way to both catch and release legally without injuring these protected birds, thus the reference to having someone official on site that is trained to handle wild animals. I was not talking about doing what the South Koreans do to their migratory birds, as they most likely end up in a soup bowl shortly after capture. While these birds are endangered, they can also be classified as pests to farmers that raise chickens for either eggs or for further food consumption down the road. Thus the care that must be taken when crossing that fine line of keeping the predator alive and well, while also protecting the chickens. If you were to just allow it to go unchecked the predator would eventually set up a nest close by to enable it easy access to it's new food source. And the farmer would eventually go bankrupt.....Please re-review the federal law that protects migratory birds as I am sure it has a provision in there somewhere to protect the farmer, which is also considered in the case of deer being classified as pests to farmers that grow large crops such as barley and corn. It is legal for a farmer to shoot deer year round that feed on his crops.

Sounds like good advice. There may be a provision in there somewhere to protect the farmer, I dont know. I havent talked to my neighbor about it. I would think he needs to build a roof on his enclosure.
