Re: What do you guys think of this dime?

What year is it?

Interesting just the other day I found a 2004 P US quarter that had an edge just like your dime - no copper showing at all. I thought it was a Canadian when I opened the roll.

My guess is that both are just anomolies, but not silver. Perhaps the planchette from which they made it was constructed improperly.

Hello Brian,
It's definately not silver, and there are two definative spots where the coppers shows through as though the dime was being held with forceps or something...........but most of the rim is completely covered, making it look silver style. I could've sworn at first glance that I had found a silver rosie. I'm simply wondering if a coin like this has even the slightest premium? Could it be categorized as an error? I'm definately keeping it, as I've never seen a clad coin like it. In the pictures, I am holding a normal clad dime next to it to show how different it looks.

Someone probably dipped it in chrome. That's what it looks like to me. Worth nothing.

Not to forget that silver planchets are used fotr proof coins..........

It does seem reasonable that a proof silver could have wound up in circulation, or a silver planchet did wind up in the press for normal circulation, I would take it to a coin dealer for further investigation, or...........you could mail it to me ;D, send a self addressed envelope with a stamp, and $5.00 for my unguarenteed opinion and analysis............fred
