What do you carry with you when you are out MDing?

Finally,coffee!

Might bring the instruction manual while learning a new detector, pill bottle with padding for suspected old coins or delicate small finds. Trouble from using kitchen items comes later when cleaning some items!

I always fully research the locations I'm going to...
I only buy good quality metal detectors and make sure I know how to operate them to a high degree...
I only carry the best tools my money can buy...
I carry a stainless Stanley Aladdin bottle, made in Nashville, TN... not China...
I put JFG coffee from Knoxville. TN in the bottle...
Then I put the coffee in me, also from Tennessee...

You just got to have a great system that works!!:coffee2::icon_thumleft::laughing7:

I think we have finally found something that does not require Duct tape. I did not think it was possible!

And there was a collective palm to the forehead as we all just realized what it was we forgot. Lol Griz, good looking out!

Lots of great things have been mentioned and thank you. So no one has took any of the wife's kitchen utensils? man theres alot of good husbands out here. I thought there was something in the kitchen that has been used but i guess not. Well anyway keep all the Ideas coming and thank you.

The wife's? All the good stuff in the kitchen is mine. She chopped vegetables with a steak knife when I met her. And most of her cooking was gourmet....'cause that's what it said on the box.

An extra pair of underwear in case I ever make that life changing find.

I usually only take my detector, find pouch with web belt, gloves and digging tool. The detector, type of pouch, kind of gloves and digging tool may change depending on if I'm water hunting, land hunting maintained property or hunting a farm/woods.

In the car there could be anything but I usually have extra batteries, extra detector, extra arm cuff and coil bolts, electrical tape, a deep lid to a storage container (I dump my dirty finds into this so it does not get all over the carpet in my trunk), extra digging tool, extra coils, hand held GPS (If hunting woods I take this with me to revisit good sites), digital camera, water and snacks, backpack, first aid kit, germ-x hand cleaner, sunblock, bug spray, change for parking meters...I'm sure I'm leaving something out.

ALWAYS carry extra batteries. I was SOOOO glad I did - on the strength of the advice I took from the wise here - when one day late last fall I was waaaaaaaay down the beach when it went kaput. Initially I had forgotten I had them, then in a split second I remembered and was hugely relieved, as I still had at least an hour of beautiful sunlight left.

I just bought a 2inch work belt that I can put different things on. I've got my digger on one side. My pointer on the other. And a little tri-compartment pouch in front with lots of little zippers & places to tuck my phone, my keys, extra batteries, and finds. It's also got room for gloves (if I feel I need them) and other little things. In the warmer weather I can add a water bottle to it.

The thing I've found is to make sure your set up is flexible enough to get you to whichever kind of site you are digging (beach or woods) and light enough not to wear you out. Simple tool aprons or belts are what a lot of people use, but I really like this 2inch tool belt thing I can slide things on and off of.

Oh! And BEWARE OF HUNTERS. If you are out in the woods you might want to consider an orange vest! I just bought one so I don't get shot! I'm a BIG 2nd Amendment supporter but I don't want to be on the wrong end!
Annie, I want to make two suggestions. First, I don't like to wear my digger. especially if it is big and/or sharp. It HURTS when I fall on it. Second, I like to spray-paint my digger so if I leave it behind , I can easily spot it. Just some thoughts. TTC

Again thanks for all the great ideas that yall have give me. I'm sure I will be ready for what ever may come my way while out MD'ing. I will have a couple of back packs set up for differant kinds of hunts and so I think this will be the way to go. They will go with me on all hunts so when I get there I will have what I need no matter what. Then I will take what is needed for the area I'm in. Again thank you for all the advise and I'm sure I will be prepaired.

On the beach just my detector, water scoop, camelbac and money, in my detector van everything but the kitchen sink... I never go to beach with less than 3 detectors, 2 excals and my sov gt at least, maybe my etrac as well and always have a back up scoop and my detector toolbox that has every thing need to do a repair if out of town..................................... Oh, and I am also "carrying".. Stays in van durring the day at beach, and on me at night if night hunting..........

Detector, Strong spade.. Good boots, gloves, munchies and a flask. I aso carry 3-4 plastic bags. These are to wrap the finds in. What i do is put the first find in the corner of a bag then twist it and turn the bag inside out . You can now put the next find in without coming into contact with the previous one. Then repeat.. My stainless steel flask of tea I will carry to the site but will put it down somewhere and come back to it later.

I carry a leshe, pinpointer, and batteries in a tool pouch along with a pill container full of water for silver coins. They are water tight and very light. I think if you try to carry some of the stuff I read on this thread your nuts!

Good advice. To be honest, my hunting vest has a large pocket on each side that goes around to the back to place the animals you shoot. It also has some other pockets....so I may start wearing it to detect.

wow!:BangHead: Did I ask the wrong quistion. Didnt mean to make people sick.:laughing7:
