What do you carry with you when you are out MD'ing?

I am new to MD'ing and I know you have tool's that are a must to retreve your finds. I also know all of you have yuor faveroite tools you use when you go out on your hunt. What I am asking is what do you take out with you? Have you found something that is usefull out in the field that is not designed for MD'ing, Like every day household items something you have found in the shed or gurage? What do you have with you every time you go out?

As little as possible! If I'm on the beach, a good sandscoop and finds bag, and a small daypack with water, munchies, extra batteries, spare coil bolts, small roll of duct tape, and some toilet paper. If I'm dirt hunting, kneepads, Lesche hand digger, small hand towel, finds bag, and my trusty daypack. I have never used a handheld pinpointer in 35-years, but a lot of hobbyists will not leave their driveway without one.

Thank's for the help. I'm sure every one has there favorite things they take out with them. Trere are things you mentioned that I would not have thought of. Again Thank you.

I usually try to carry some type of container for fragile finds ,film container / plastic snuff container& maybe some cotton or soft material to wrap items in ."@ least when Im out in the woods. Over time EXPERIENCE will let you know whats needed. sorry 4 any bad spelling. Davers

thanks. and no prop. on the spelling thing im always asking my wife for help. lol.

Essentials

ALWAYS carry extra batteries. I was SOOOO glad I did - on the strength of the advice I took from the wise here - when one day late last fall I was waaaaaaaay down the beach when it went kaput. Initially I had forgotten I had them, then in a split second I remembered and was hugely relieved, as I still had at least an hour of beautiful sunlight left.

I just bought a 2inch work belt that I can put different things on. I've got my digger on one side. My pointer on the other. And a little tri-compartment pouch in front with lots of little zippers & places to tuck my phone, my keys, extra batteries, and finds. It's also got room for gloves (if I feel I need them) and other little things. In the warmer weather I can add a water bottle to it.

The thing I've found is to make sure your set up is flexible enough to get you to whichever kind of site you are digging (beach or woods) and light enough not to wear you out. Simple tool aprons or belts are what a lot of people use, but I really like this 2inch tool belt thing I can slide things on and off of.

Oh! And BEWARE OF HUNTERS. If you are out in the woods you might want to consider an orange vest! I just bought one so I don't get shot! I'm a BIG 2nd Amendment supporter but I don't want to be on the wrong end!

Thanks for the advise.

I carry a whole lot in the car, and not too much with me. If land hunting, a plastic bag, my pinpointer, digger and detector. Water, the scoop and detector only. The most important item in the car is the spare coil bolt - they do break and nothing shuts you down quicker. I buy nylon bolts from Home Depot that fit my detectors and leave a baggie of them in the car. Other important stuff is bug spray, sun screen, a baggie to cover detector if it starts raining, some water to wash off finds so I am not tempted to rub them, and something for me to eat/drink since I tend to lose track of time and skip meals when hunting. And, a magnifyier so I can check my finds.

Just ordered this for carrying stuff. $25 Should hold my phone, GPS lesche, batts, keys and whatever I find. Everything else will stay in the car

Condor crossover leg rig. Can be used as a sling pak or a drop leg rig.

I'll use this when I want to be less intimidating with my Lesche

I carry a lote of treasure hunting stuff in my car. i never know what kind of hunting i want to do. So i carry sluice box, gold pan, buckets. and g.p.s. If i'm in the woods i can leave way plots to find a spot later if i want to go back. My truck looks like a (thought ) waiting to happen;

where did you order the Condor crossover leg rig at? I like the size.

If hunting land: detector ,different size coils. spare batteries, pin pointer ,digging tool, water... at the beach water scoop , detector , and sun screen ,and water..don't forget cap.

Lots of great things have been mentioned and thank you. So no one has took any of the wife's kitchen utensils? man theres alot of good husbands out here. I thought there was something in the kitchen that has been used but i guess not. Well anyway keep all the Ideas coming and thank you.

I've got a big toolbox that holds all my stuff except the detector. I load the toolbox in the vehicle but only normally get my digger, nail apron, and detector out of the vehicle. I've got extra diggers, batteries, etc. in the toolbox.

do you have a photo or link to an example of the belt you are mentioning here? Thanks!

I've only been beach hunting this last year. Detector and headphones, BIG sand scoop, belt pack with wallet, cell phone, magnifier, extra battery, zip lock bag. Orange vest if I'm alone on the beach (in case a seagull attacks).

Sure! Until I got the belt (which I haven't even used yet. It's frozen up here in MA), I was using this and really like it. It's just a teensy bit heavy for me. But a guy might really REALLY like it. VERY sturdy and has ALL KINDS of storage. I could fit a garden shovel AND a bottle of water in one side pocket & my pointer (and more if I had to) in the other. I tucked batteries in one little compartment. Used another with a zipper half open to tuck finds in. Then there's a HUGE central compartment I fit a GIANT horseshoe I found on the beach once. And those are just a FEW of the pockets. The thing is just packed with nooks & crannies & hooks and whatnot. I wore it swung to my front left, as I dig with my right. It has a quick release strap to snap in back around your waist so it doesn't dangle when you bend over to dig. It's a GREAT bag. Here's a link http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002XLHKF2

This is the belt:

It's from a company called Bahco and it's called a Quick Release Leather Belt. (Amazon has one, but it's an XL).

Hope that helps!
