Metal Detecting
After a very hot summer the weather finally was cool enough to think about detecting. I hauled the camper over to one of my private permissions and spent 5 days detecting at the old fort site. I've heard the soldiers in the IW campaigns didn't like shoulder scales since they were mainly for mitigation of mounted saber strikes and the Indians didn't use sabers. In addition they had to be polished for inspection and a lot of them were intentionally discarded. I don't know if that's a fact, but given the amount of scale pieces I find I think it has some merit. The only out of the ordinary finds this time were some sutler's tokens; three for 50 cents and one for 25. I gave one of the 50 cents tokens to the land owner. Now it's time to choose the better pieces and get them ready for my display case. Thanks for looking!

Very impressive haul....will make some nice cases for sure
Thanks. That's my first carbine sling buckle. Its broken, but luckily the piece was in the same hole. That'll definitely go in the case.

Nice finds Congrats

You had a great 5 days of digging. Congratulations

Now a couple of queries.
What is the iron object?

I dug the top portion this afternoon (or something very similar)

Now these items are most interesting.
Part of a link chain decoration, belt?

Nice catch on the watch winder.

Certainly you can fill a few quality frames.

I'm not sure what the iron piece is. It's a ranch/farm now so it could be from machinery. I think those four pieces are some type of chain. Two of the four are braised together. All were in the same hole. That watch winder was just a light squeaker. I almost didn't dig it. Thanks!

If nobody gives an ID on the piece. Maybe post it up on the What is it section.
The chain links are really cool.

FANTASTIC FINDS :) Thanks for sharing with us :) When are WE GOING AGAIN ? :)
