as many of you know by now, Iron Patch got a really great button yesterday

I thought that I got skunked out with just a large cent find( nothing great for a Rev War site )

I did however find a few flat buttons and what I thought was just a large cent, well it was not a large cent, in fact a French cinq centimes 1894, same size as our large cents and probably passed as one, so, a pleasant but not earth shattering find

then I looked harder at a button I got, I thought briefly in the field there was detail on it, then dismissed it, since IP had what was an unbelievable find, my expectations for something dashed away

so, I cleaned up my pouch and the buttons I found this morning
wow is all I can say now, got a nice button and didn't even know it

could be an 1812 generals button???

I guess the Iron Bros. are still alive for 2013

I just found something, say rare, same as those on Isaac Brock's coat at the Canadian war museum. Cru not have seen one is a good sign, and your is so much better than the one I found on line.

From here. near bottom of the page.
Old Rebellion War Relics

British General Officers Button
Backmark: ""IOHN-WILLIAMS"rm(24mm)
- This is a fantastic and RARE War of 1812 British General Officers Button, found in Kingston. It is in excellant dug condition. This is a one piece early convex style button. The front showing rope style border on the outside, and the floral leaf coming up from the bottom of each side. Inside the wreath has the classic sword and Baton crossed. The back is in very fine shape with the raised back mark. Also has the full stank up shank in tight conditionp
This is a scarce button, and to be excavated in America, even more so. This type of button is the same as those on Isaac Brock's coat at the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa Canada

Don't get too excited. :) Not really that rare, and a pristine non dug one goes about $150. Now if you can prove you have one from Brock's coat we'd have to talk about that.

Great looking button for sure, you guys had a really great day out in the fields.

That's a pretty sweet button! I think I've only ever found one or two buttons with even that much gilt left!

Well I would say that was a rare button! it has the gold gilt in all the right areas...Me thinking if that was from a general then more of his rare stuff may be laying around for the pickings...lets say in the spring of 2014 with me as a guest lol.... you got my vote IH...Banner right there...

AWESOME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:icon_thumleft:

If you want a trip there in the spring, buddy, you got it!
Just to let you know, this site has been hit HARD over the past decade, we got in after a potato crop so the ground got turned up real good. Lots of iron to pick through and it's a good sized site, downside, I only dug about a half dozen targets in an hour or two, upside, the odds of finding something good were awesome

I'll be ready in the Spring... with Explorer in hand again! If that had been a new site and loaded with that kinda stuff, the Fedex driver would have been here today with my new detector.

Well it's button week on TN, Rick and I dig up some awesome buttons on Sunday, BuckleBoy gets up a really nice "US" button and Oxbowbarefoot pulls out an 1812-1820 Eagle Cockade, and then you and IP blow us all out of the water with those two ridicules buttons. Well done and I think your's would look fantastic up there beside IP's beauty.Vote is going in.
Congrats IH,
ZDD

You got that right, we are all very fortunate to be posting up some wonderful finds that a lot if detectorists hardly ever see, what a week for buttons!

Very cool finds, both are very cool.

Holy crap...that's a beauty!

I know right?
Just when you need something decent to inspire you to keep getting out there , it just shows up!

I'd like to get another crack at that site to see what else is hiding, or a new site to get the blood pumping more

I couldn't even imagine finding a General's button. Definitely a Banner find! :hello2:
