Well, this would be a hell of a coin to find...

Hmmm...a pewter, Continental Dollar minted in 1776, in an overall lot of around 6,000 produced, with only about 100 remaining. And found in England of all places, to boot! To borrow from Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen, I think we've got a live one here! My guess is that it will go for a lot more than the £20,000 to £30,000 predicted. It's in pretty good shape, too. And I have to say, I really like a coin that actually says, "MIND YOUR BUSINESS" on it. That's my kind of coin!

Rare US coin found in toffee tin in the Cotswolds could be worth tens of thousands of pounds

And, boy was I wrong...and disappointed. The coin sold for £25,000, more than $32,000 American and right in the middle of the predicted range. I really thought it might go for as much as twice the predicted sale price.

That will buy a whole lot of toffee !!

Coin collectors consider these experimental or pattern coins. They were made in pewter, brass, and silver. There are only two known in silver and those are million dollar coins. It’s also thought that they were possibly made in England.

So you're saying that these are the Franklin Mint coins of their day?

Definitely the coins to have. Interesting that a 1776, pro-American coin that has the words, "MIND YOUR BUSINESS" on it might have been minted in England. Actually sounds kind of dangerous for the person who minted it. Makes me wonder what my Paul Revere rookie card is worth...
