Welcome to the site! Please post an introduction thread.

Hi, I've been detecting since 1979 and always seem to learn something new. Most of my detecting is done in southwestern, PA. Glad to have joined after lurking for sometime.

my 7 year old is obsessed

Hello, I am a mom of a 7 year old who is obsessed with metal detecting. To this date he has found around 40 "wheeties" still looking for the coveted 1909 SVDP. His most prize find was a 1901 Canadian Nickel. And a 10 cent Netherland coin. He is just in it for the coins! He has also found alot of cans! We live in a suburb of Chicago a we go to buildings that are dated pretty old. He was bummed when we told him we couldn't metal detect in Robinson Woods. But fpr the most part he is happy finding gold and silver jewelry on the beaches in Chicago.

Congrats on having a son that likes an OUTdoor activity. I hope he continues to do well in this and still has the fever when he is older. Welcome to the forum!

Howdy Folks......another newbie here. However, I've been visiting TreasureNet forum for a few days now. Every time I'd google a question about a MD & how it reacts in a particular environment, or what people thought about it, 9 Xs out of 10 I'd end up here. Lots of great info & I've read & learned a lot from every thread I've read, I thank you all up front. On that note, I'm about to close a deal on a used Fisher F75 LSE with an extra 15" DD Coil, protective covers for the 15" & the original 11" coil. Unfortunately it's a bit more than I originally wanted to spend, so I'm going to hit the forums one more time before I close the deal. Thanks again for all the info everyone has put out, it's helped a lot & I'm really excited to start hunting.

Welcome to the forum, and I hope to welcome you to the hobby. I personally do not own a Fisher, but there are MANY here that do and they are quite accomplished hunters. They always praise their machine, so I believe you will never regret spending the little bit more than you intended. I did not wait more than 6 months before upgrading, so you will be wise to buy the best you can afford. You will never stop learning on this forum.

Thanks Old Dude, just got done reading more forums about the F75 & how to set it up in particular situations. Took lots of notes. I wont be hard to find, I'll be the guy holdin the MD in one hand & a hand full of paper in the other. LoL!! I was going to get a AT Pro, I see you have one as well. If this hobby takes off & I can get my 10yr old into it, I just might get her an AT. Thanks again, & happy hunting.

Howdy folks! Ronson here, enthusiastic newb who is starting his serious looking up at the old family farm, trying to figure out where the original owner's house was, way back when! (I've decided random MD'ing on beaches is not for me.)

Edit: before I post my first "what is it?" photo, I figured I'd offer up that I'm pretty good with ID'ing early pot metal Cracker Jack premiums/prizes, should anyone need help with that... I've got a few reference books and such, including an early Dowst catalog. FWIW.

I am new at metal detecting. My son and I just bought Whites SGT and MXT. we are super excited about it all. We still have yet to buy any tools for digging lol. We are so lost when it boils down to all of the information on the web pertaining where we can hunt, like Superstition Mountains in Apache Junction, parks, Riverbanks, dry washes, private land, mining etc. we have seen some posts about Terry Solomon and some veterans posts comments about Rich Hill and clubs but we don't even know where to start with anything like that we would like to stay close to like Superstition Mountains, Apache Junction Arizona. we live in Mesa Arizona now. not sure we could just randomly go and find a vein and follow it or a dry river or wash in follow that. Looking at websites, blm etc. it is so confusing, anyone have any information or advice is what to do and where to start? Thanks.

BTW I have a dd eclipse for the mxt too along with the standard. I would sure like to go out this weekend and it would appreciate some great advice as I know I'll get some because there at the lot of great advice on the site. Thanks

Hey all, New guy from Rhode Island.
I bought a Garrett ace 350 2 months ago,the instructions said to "dig everything" to learn ,I never would have thought there was soo much metal in the ground !started out on my own property and surrounding abandoned farm land turned back to forest(1700's to 1800's). Finding some interesting relics ,musket balls, 1858 half dime, 1902 pennies, lots of shotgun shells, rifle cartridges, huge old "cut 'nails, oxen ,mule, donkey and horse shoes ect. Now that I have "the bug", I think I need to upgrade to a better unit ! 20140720_142931.jpgmetal finds3.jpgmetal finds.jpg20140720_142931.jpgmetal finds3.jpgmetal finds.jpg

Hello from the Piedmont of North Carolina. Just bought a White Coin Master GT. As I am battling diabetes my specialist told me to find a hobby to relax to go along with his regimen. He said my diabetes was the result of adrenal exhaustion and I needed to reduce the stress in my life or not have a life. He told me to find something that I really liked doing. Well, over 45 years ago I had a White Detector and enjoyed it but work and family got in the way. Now, retired, and 73, I need to regroup. Hopefully I can un-stress while enjoying my early detecting passion. I will be slowly looking for places to enjoy my detecting. Rones

Welcome back to the hobby. I look forward to your posts of good finds.

I'm a new member from NE Wisconsin, I picked up a metal detector and a pinpointer a couple of years ago. Given the hours we've put in, my wife and I are very pleased as we've have had some early success with coins and jewelry (even a couple designer pieces of jewelry) thus far. We always leave dig areas as good if not better than before and to dispose of the trash we find.

As a newbie, I've heard to stay away from DNR land, state parks, etc....I've heard De Pere parks are ok, Green Bay requires a permit and only a 3/8" digging tool, but Ashwaubenon parks are off limits.

Anyone have advice on finding out the legalities of Metal Detecting along Lake Michigan beaches? Say from Door County area down to Ozaukee county beaches and parks along the shoreline???
How about detecting the shoreline of inland lakes or the fox river?

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks

Hey! I've been in the hobby for a couple years now as time allows but new to this site. The more I read, the more excited I get to go out and follow the beep. I'm located in central Il and hoping there are a few others as well.
