I mentioned this in another thread, but I believe it might be well to start another thread on it.

I know there are others here who know even more about this than I do and I encourage them to help others understand that there has already been a time when weapons were seized from people in this country, and what the result was.

The massacre at Wounded Knee as well as other incidents (Sand Creek was also mentioned in the other thread) came about after people were disarmed. They were disarmed and then killed. Not warriors. Old women were killed by soldiers. Old men were killed. Children still suckling were killed and even scalped and their skulls crushed after they were already dead.

People - this did not take place in Germany, Turkey, Russia or some other foreign land. It took place here in these United States.

This statement is not to make anyone angry or guilty over what has happened in the past. Those people are gone, both the victims and perpetrators. Their pain is in the past and should stay there.

What should NOT stay there is the lesson that is largely ignored by the anti-gun lobby.

At that time, there was no registration of weapons? You have not looked at the "rolls". Their possessions were recorded . . . weapons were prized possessions. They were effectively "registered". Not in Turkey, in these United States.

Then, the weapons were confiscated at a later date. Not in Cambodia, in these United States.

Then (in several but not all cases) these same people who had sought to trade their weapons for peace --- once unable to defend themselves --- were slaughtered by artillery and automatic weapons of the period.

If you think it cannot happen in these United States, welcome to the reservation. I hope you do well there. I choose not to go.

I've previously posted Russel Means' "Welcome To The Reservation" video. Not many gave it credence but perhaps it makes more sense now, in light of recent political happenings.

Do YOU live on the REZ...? Tribal Police are aware of the "problems" on the Rezs, and they are "THE LAW"; ALL that you stated IS history... THAT was THEN; THIS is NOW! The REAL issue is TRUST! I have adopted ($$$$$$) two native ppl "sources" (SD & MT) to help Native Children get education, etc. 501 (c) (3) can benefit from $$$$$$$$$$$$$ & YOU can get a TAX "write-off".

You seem very excited about the tax write off.

The point may be in the days of our great grandfathers something in motion led to rez life. One of boarders created by others who chose them. Policy changed multiple times. disarmament eventually ended effective resistance. Can it be done again to those in the way of progress?
It would not take near as long when so few can make do with out institutions and money. The life span of two long lived people all that's past since frontier ended.
What had evolved over thousands of years was stopped. guns just a part of it. Control was a big one,by many means. was not totally possible for hundreds of years. Could intentions have been known in the beginning..........
I,m not saying the sky is falling but not forgetting past patterns or how many ways there are to deceive. Have i borders?

How did something like Wounded Knee happen?

1. Our people had no immigration policy and open borders.

2. We exchanged our guns (and other weapons) for a promise of peace.

Any other questions?

YEP! GREAT idea for ppl like Romney...

Romeny broke no tax laws, he used the tax laws to his advantage just like every other American does....Do you forgo using the interest on your home loan as part of your tax write off, do you forgo the deductions for you and your wife when you file your taxes?...

Actually my observation that rebel seemed excited about the tax breaks was the tax breaks, not helping the people. Now its clear:laughing7:

20 medals of honor awarded. Must have been a hell of a battle? :BangHead:

Thats what happens when a government(FEARS) a people dancing.Notice I said FEAR dano. The U.S. government feared the Native American ghost dancers.Thats why the socalled battle of wounded knee took place.Disarming and collecting weapons wasnt enough, giving food not fit to eat wasnt enough, now they had to outlaw a dance. They went to the reservation to collect the rest of any weapons remaining and to put down a dance. Most of the Soldiers were killed by their own artillery fire, some battle huh dano.

Look at the map of south Florida-there are two sovereign nations of native Americans that ARE NOT part of the United States.

There's that FEAR thing again.

Hey, I remember when you demeaned Russel Means as an out of date, socialist, lying red man that didn't know squat. What happened? When did the epiphany occur? Oh, and your pronouncements were back when Marc owned the site.

YES! What are YOU doing in the "here & now", PERSONALLY... to help First Nations ppl...? I, PERSONALLY help the Monacan Nation here in Virginia by advocating that the "settlement" interact more with the local white/black communities by going to and helping with local Pow Wow, set for May 18 & 19, 2013 in Elon, Virginia; wife & I have donated "gently used" items to Monacan Nation scholarship auction for young ppl to go to college; as grant researcher, I have advised the chief (know her well) of funding sources ($$$$$$$$$$$) to help native families to send their kids to college; I advised tribal ppl via the chief about scholarships programs at Virginia Tech, College of William & Mary, and UVA (I especially like VT because Monacan Nation HISTORY is "tied" to the SW Virginia area); wife & I go to the Monacan Nation Home-coming in Oct. so I can see my BOWLING family, who ARE on the Rolls. A WISE chief once said... "Let us put our minds together, to what FUTURE, we can make for our CHILDREN." TIME TO MOVE FORWARD! More, LATER...

LOL! We RENT! Owned a house & 4 acres in Albemarle County, Va. (Charlottesville area) down from "Little Mountain" (aka Monticello) 1985-1992; NEVER again! Of course, Romney "broke no tax laws"... just saying PPL with money to "burn"... INVEST in the "welfare, education, & HOPE for our children!

Reb,your giving me something to consider,,. With green beer day celebrating less of hard times and more of culture, less than two decades after trail of tears a collection was taken up from some of those same people with thin purses to offer relief to the Irish during famine. i should acknowledge that eh?. An Irish ancester had a general store here, natives were part of clientele. So they helped financially enough to return the favor. interesting tie.
