With green beer day celebrating less of hard times and more of culture,less than two decades after trail of tears a collection was taken up from some of those same people with thin purses to offer relief to the Irish during famine. i should acknowledge that eh?. An Irish ancester had a general store here,natives were part of clientele. So they helped financially enough to return the favor. interesting tie.

YES! What are YOU doing in the "here & now", PERSONALLY... to help First Nations ppl...? I, PERSONALLY help the Monacan Nation here in Virginia by advocating that the "settlement" interact more with the local white/black communities by going to and helping with local Pow Wow, set for May 18 & 19, 2013 in Elon, Virginia; wife & I have donated "gently used" items to Monacan Nation scholarship auction for young ppl to go to college; as grant researcher, I have advised the chief (know her well) of funding sources ($$$$$$$$$$$) to help native families to send their kids to college; I advised tribal ppl via the chief about scholarships programs at Virginia Tech, College of William & Mary, and UVA (I especially like VT because Monacan Nation HISTORY is "tied" to the SW Virginia area); wife & I go to the Monacan Nation Home-coming in Oct. so I can see my BOWLING family, who ARE on the Rolls. A WISE chief once said... "Let us put our minds together, to what FUTURE, we can make for our CHILDREN." TIME TO MOVE FORWARD! More, LATER...

Just assimilating us into your world usually means taking away our identities as a people. Without our past, without our history, we don't know where we came from.

Similarly, without remembering the history of this country, it becomes easy to make the same mistakes over and over.

When you see things heading down a similar path, why would you expect a different result?

Thats what happens when a government(FEARS) a people dancing.Notice I said FEAR dano.The U.S. government feared the Native American ghost dancers.Thats why the socalled battle of wounded knee took place.Disarming and collecting weapons wasnt enough,giving food not fit to eat wasnt enough,now they had to outlaw a dance.They went to the reservation to collect the rest of any weapons remaining and to put down a dance.Most of the Soldiers were killed by their own artillery fire,some battle huh dano.

Once again a comment of mine seems to have been taken or twisted to mean the opposite of it's original intent. Let me try to Americanize it a little more:

What is it with this "fear" obsession? From how i read it the white folks at the sharp end of the stick were bothered that the tribes seemed to be heading towards a unification with a possible intent of "war", due to misinterpretation of the true meaning of "the Ghost dance".
They pass on their worries to the Government and Govt says "ok, well if it bothers you that much stamp it out!".

I used to know this guy who had a big mole on his shoulder. He figured melanoma couldn't happen to him, so he ignored the possibility. Didn't work out well for him.

We see the actors in place to foist this upon us here in the U.S. - not just Native Americans, but all the people. But you don't think it could happen to us, so we'll just ignore it.

Better you think that it couldn't happen here, but you'll be on the watch to see that it doesn't rather than deny it.
