Reb,your giving me something to consider,,. With green beer day celebrating less of hard times and more of culture,less than two decades after trail of tears a collection was taken up from some of those same people with thin purses to offer relief to the Irish during famine. i should acknowledge that eh?. An Irish ancester had a general store here,natives were part of clientele. So they helped financially enough to return the favor. interesting tie.
There was EMPATHY, yes... it CAN lead to COMPASSION.
