Weekend digs

Damnails and I hunted two sites this weekend and here is my take. Yesterday we did alittle scouting and ended up at an old house site. I didn't find much, three flat button's and an old knife.

Today was much better. We hunted a CW site and had some success. I found several bullets, some round balls and Bucky balls. Lots of camp lead and a few odds and ends. One thing I found looks like a small brass finial. Not sure what it is so if you have an idea I'd welcome it. Two weeks ago when we hunted this site, Damnails found two LCs and I found a mercury dime. This time I found two LCs and he found a mercury dime. Go figure, we always seem to even out. The one is a 1851 and the other is pretty slick but I'm glad to have it.

My best find, at least for me, was this nipple protecter. I have found a few of these but this one is near perfect. Soilders would fashion these to keep dirt and moisture out of their guns while marching. You can clearly see the imprint of the hammer on one side and the nipple on the other. Like carved bullets, these are a personal item and I'm tickled to have it. Thanks for looking.
