Relic Hunting
Dman (The Most interesting Relic Hunter in the World-according to him) and I had the honor to be invited to hunt a very old homesite by Tenn. relic hunting legends and our friends Donnie (Tennessee Digger) and his wife Julia Vaughn. They were featured on the American Digger "Relic Roundup" show last night and it was very enjoyable. Their hunting careers will also be the subject of an AD article written by me to be published during the summer.
We met up with them at an old homesite. Dman lasted about half of the 3 hour hunt. He dug two flat buttons, many iron relics, and a brass piece that Donnie said likely was a decoration piece from the stock of a KY rifle before he quit hunting. Julia dug the brass knob with the nice green patina (coffee grinder part?). Donnie dug 9 buttons and I snapped some good pics of two of them before he pulled them from the dirt. Almost back to their vehicle, I dug a .44 cal. pistol ball cut in half. Do I smell CW relics there too as Donnie dug a couple of pieces of melted lead near the old home ?
No coins but they should be there. It was a lot of fun hunting with them and we plan to make it a frequent event. HH, Quindy.

We enjoyed getting out with you guys today. I think if we spent all day on that site that we could dig a few real good things. Buttons are soaking now. When we get time, I'll show you another place in that area that I think we could dig something. Enjoyed meeting Doug. He is interesting and a pretty good hunter!! Tennessee digger

His head is big enough now Donnie-LOL. He's getting stronger each hunt. We had a blast and thanks for inviting us. HH, Quindy.

The excitement really takes on when that green patina starts revealing through the dirt.

Sounds like it was a Great time, Bill

Sounds like a blast! That's what it's all about .. good fellowship, good times, good relics .. Just can't beat a day like that!

Looks like a great hunt nice finds!!!!!

Donnie,
You threw me for a loop there. I had to relook at the group picture to be sure you were talking about Dman Doug there. :tongue3: :laughing9: Just kidding of course. (not really)

Glad to be able to finally put a face with a name. Quindy speaks very highly of you and your wife, and says you have quite a sense of humor. You must have to detect with those two. :occasion18: :icon_jokercolor:

Congrats on the recoveries. :icon_thumleft:

100% Agree...

Hunting with Quindy and Doug reminds me of hunting back in the "old days" of relic hunting. Everybody is there just to have a good time and learn a little from each other. No egos, just relics. Q and D-Man both like to joke with each other ( D-Man put some heavy iron objects in Quindy's pouch when he wasn't looking) and I used to do the same to one of my hunting partners years ago. Except I used a big rock.... every time. Good guys to hunt with. Remember that relic hunting was never just about the relics. Tennessee digger

It was Bill and only two things would look better than the green patina-silver or gold-LOL. HH up there in the Commonwealth Bill, Quindy.

Rob, as you know, you recall days like yesterday better than days when you made a great find alone. HH, Quindy.

Thanks Hutch. I hope you get to hunt the fields of old Viginny this weekend. I talked to the North South Trader Magazine office today and they said it was a wet day there. HH, Quindy.

Oh, he had a great day Floyd-putting scrap iron into my pouch-LOL. It was a day to remember my friend. Tell Shirley "Hi", Quindy.

MM, Dnan's got the big head now for sure. Donnie & Julia need to write a book about their relic hunting adventures as they are really funny and entertaining. I hope you get to meet and hunt with them when you get out here to hunt with the Trio. HH, Q.

Donnie, he's a clown for sure. I noticed him behind me when I was watching Julia uncover one of her finds. I had to pack that big piece from a single tree and iron stove and pot parts around with me all during the hunt for him for the misc. iron collection in his store. Good relics come and go but good friends last a lifetime. We don't have egos as we operate as a team and help each other. It was fun checking the tone on your Golden Sabre as compared to the F75 reading. Your experience with that machine showed and the only thing that sounded different was the melted bullets. looking forward to the next hunt. Quindy.

Q,
Looks & Sounds like a good time was had by all! And Dman made it 1 & 1/2 hours without getting hurt! :laughing9:
I look forward to that artical! Judging from the size of Donnie's finds pouch, that man digs a Ton of stuff! :D
Love seeing the finds coming out of the ground like that. Nice pics! :icon_thumleft: I know what you mean about those coins. As you know I have been hunting some old home sites lately also. And for some reason I have only found 1 coin but many flat buttons. I'm beginning to think money was so tight back in those days that they held on to their money really tight! :dontknow:
Congrats to all of you on a good day!
Hey Rob, Dman hunting for an hour and a half is a new accident free record-LOL. If you can't dig an old coin, nice CW buttons like you have been digging works too-LOL. HH my friend, Quindy.

Sounds like ya'll had a fun time and found some neat items! Way to go! Breezie
