on a more serious note ... why would a HMS vessel not be listed "properly" in British naval records when it sank ? ---answer ---it was a loyalist "privateer" issued letters of marque and sank while engaged as such --regular navy types --hated "privateers" or hired pirates as they called them --but offically they were "HMS .... whatever" so if their spot of sinking was known it would be marked -- X----"HMS ..WHATEVER"

Sinking's of value were rarely documented on maps or any other "public accessible" items... and considered secret.
And punishable by "No Quarter"... if one talked about these things.
