"Governor Carlos deGradpre."....also Grande Pierre, Grand Pierre, was ordered back to Spain under allegations of treason but he died before the affair could get underway. A note of interest here, he was French, not Spanish.

TRUE! The French helped the BRITS... TORIES!

We've not found any documentation as to "exactly" what Grande Pierre was being accused of, mainly because we've just been pursuing other areas at present, but it would be interesting to know exactly what he was suspected of given his relationship to Beale.

Carry on...

Here's something of great interest lately; after Beale Sr. went to New Orleans what, "exactly", became of the family property in Virginia?

Thomas Beale Sr married his daughter. He was French Canadian who swore alegence to Spain then became the governor of west Florida.

Not "exactly".....yet. But it's certainly on our list of things to investigate.

GREAT! The Beale Plantation, Blue Fountain, was @ 3-4 miles EAST of Buchanan, Va, in Botetourt County along the James River... at the foot of PURGATORY Mountain. They used Looney's Ferry in the past, and there is a BEALE Bridge, up there. You can go to the top of Purgatory Mountain (never been there), and see 360 degrees around you; I think it was an old volcano, or something. Good Luck! HH!

Here's a question that's interesting to entertain; Why would someone enter a region under an assumed name when that name would have already been well known in that region? Not saying this is the case, just entertaining the notion.

The Spanish felt that Carlos de Grandpre was "PRO" French interests, and was sent to Havana to be tried for that "crime".

After Thomas Beale died in 1820,his will and the property in Virginia was contested by Chlory/AKA Chloe Dalancy/AKA Chloe Delaney, who came from Botetourt County ,Virginia to New Orleans with a claim that she was the rightful heir to Beale's Virginia property.
Who was this woman, and what was the basis of her claim?

I wonder just "exactly" what they had on him?

Vincent Otto Nolte was a New Orleane's merchant who knew both LaFitte and Beale. In his 1854 memoirs,"FIFTY YEARS IN BOTH HEMISPHERES",he mentions Beale in the Battle of New Orleans, but not in a favorable way.Nolte states that Beale was a "braggart and liar",and not to be trusted or believed. An interesting contemporary commentary concerning Beale.

Sort of offers the impression that Beale & Laffite would likely have known each other as well. Have you investigated just how many brothers Beale had and what became of them?
