Got out on Thursday and the weather was awesome after a few morning showers. The temps jumped up into the lower 70's FINALLY! I made my way out to a tavern site that dates back to the early 1700's to try my luck. I headed to a corner in the field with the tavern site being about 75 yards away. I started finding relics from the mid to late 1800's. I'll take it but not what I was looking for on this day. That all changed when a solid 11-37 popped up on my Minelab Etrac. Out of the bottom of the plug I saw that beautiful silver site we all love to find. BAM! I'll take it.

Went to a couple of coin shops in my area and they were really no help. There was not a lot of meat left on this coin (reale?). From their best guess, they said it was a 1 Reale. Now, I will leave that up to you colonial guys and you know who you are lol. Any and all advice is welcome, I am humble lol. The dime is for size comparison. Thank you all and HH!

Good stuff! Congrats on the silver!

Great job Wes! Gotta love colonial era silver

Nice finds Wes - I won't be out until Sunday and that will only be for a half day :(

Your coin looks like a 1/2 reale. I can faintly see the pillars so most likely a pillar reale, but could be a bust as well.

Very nice silver...

That is on top of my list for this summer.

Congrats !!!!!!!!!!!!

Great find Wes! I definitely agree with Dan on the 1/2 reale ID. I also believe its likely to be a late 1700s variety. I have several of those slick ones that are almost identical to yours, and they're relatively common. With that kind of wear its likely your coin circulated well into the 1800s.

Wes, of course it doesn't give you a definite ID on the coin but my opinion is the same as Dan & Bill's. I sent you an email yesterday and mentioned that it looked like a 1/2 Reale. I caught a glimpse of a pillar on your video and the coin looks like a couple that I have found. It has the same attributes as of Waves/Pillars 1/2. Mackaydon should be able to give you a positive ID when he sees it.

Talked to Nate earlier he's trying to get up with you. Maybe we'll get out.

The brass triangle shaped object looks like a broken scabbard tip of some sort. Possibly for a bayonet.

Thanks Barry! I talked with Nate the other day and we been playing phone tag. Glad your feeling better.

Thanks Dan! I knew you and Bill would come through for me. I am headed out tomorrow myself, but I am going to a Civil War site up in Henrico County. I doubt I'll find Spanish up there lol. My friend went to my colonial site today and pulled the best KG Copper I have seen in a while. It had a perfect date on it 1732! Lots of meat left on it, I hope to have a picture soon to post for him. Thank you and Bill also!

Respects!
Wes

Nice recovery Wes, I really like to see Spanish silver in the hole.
ZDD

There's plenty of Spanish silver to be found in Henrico Wes. I dug a couple in Varina on the James a few years back. The Cittie of Henricus, which was founded in 1611 used to be in Henrico (before the Dutch Gap was dug) so there could even be hammered Brittish silver in Henrico!
