I'm not exactly positive as to what this is..
But I believe it to be a vintage Union Pacific Railroad cash box.. If anyone else has information they would like to share that would be great..
Very Cool!!! Congrats!!!

Cool old box. Since it seems to lack any way to lock it, I am doubtful it is a cash box. The material also seems to be too light weight for a cash box. Thinking more like a small tool box.

Possibly.. But I would think from what you said about it being to light.., would apply to a tool box as well.. Something for me to look into tho.. Thank you for sharing.. Appreciate it

I was thinking for some kind of specialized tool or a few tools. The size wouldn't allow it to be a full blown tool box.

All cash boxes did not have a locking device. Some just had a latch. Some boxes were just made for Fire protection. I would like to know what type of area it was found ? Was it buried of just in a dump type area ?
Thanks for sharing THIS IS INTERESTING !!

Have a look at first aid boxes images. The older ones had only a single latch as yours.

We travel around the magic valley and Southeast Idaho to hunt/detect..

around the 1900's a giant dredge went through near Murray. It left a giant tailings pile. I wanted to swing a detector over it but was warned if i did it was a good way of getting shot and never be seen again. so i decided against it

That's just a cool old find right there! I love the mysterious objects like that, and I wonder what stories it could tell! Also, I'm in the Southern Idaho area myself, and looking for others to go out and detect with. If you happen to be back in the area, let me know!
