bigcypresshunter said:I see the green check but can someone post a pic of a scissor hanger.
If it is a scissor hanger, what is the purpose of crimping it on the bottom?
Were doe's the Crown come into scissor hangerumrgolf2010 said:bigcypresshunter said:I see the green check but can someone post a pic of a scissor hanger.

I would post a pic but I don't have a pair of the old-style sewing scissors.. Now that you bring it up, it doesn't make any sense

guess that one adds up about as much as the crimping on the bottom.. both completely unnecessary to hang scissors
It may be a scissor hanger but I would like to see a pair of scissors inserted into this item to see how it fits and then try to hang it up. IMO we should not green check this item without testing to see if scissors will fit or posting a supporting link or matching (scissor hanger) picture. At this point its only a theory, nothing proven. To me it looks like crimps. Also it must be for a tiny bladed scissor.CRUSADER said:would it not guide the scissors shut

because 2 of these items have been found, I believe we will find an ID.
bigcypresshunter said:I dont think its a scissor hanger. Neither patents have the bottom crimps. I do not believe scissors will easily slide into this item and it doesnt have the belt clip bend on top..
I agree with BigC :P I believe that this is a part of something else, that went on Horse tack...perhaps a Dagger Hanger, the bottom part is were a strap went throughumrgolf2010 said:bigcypresshunter said:I dont think its a scissor hanger. I think that it used to be just like the one tomlinson found and added to the thread and mine's just flattened out? dg39 seemed to be pretty certain? I just think this one might be a bit older than the one's in the links you posted.. The spot where I found it had very little post- civil war recoveries

I love to learn but without at least a matching pic, I have learned nothing. The only links/pics posted are of picture hangers. I tried googling Theodor Kocher and rabbit stringer but cant find anything similar.
Firstly, I don't know for sure what this is, its the first one I have seen, I just like Tinpan's explaination, just makes sense to me. The crown (& this looks quite generic) was used on all sorts of pieces as a kind of quality mark as well as many other reasons, one mentioned above. It doesn't need to be related in any way. Why do some Buttons for example have them...(shows they are of British origin (or Royal backing) or other country, but not that they are Royal or Military or much else)tinpan said:bigcypresshunter said:It may be a scissor hanger but I would like to see a pair of scissors inserted into this item to see how it fits and then try to hang it up. Don,t for get too try a pair of 19th century scissors as modern ones are smaller and shorter. Theodor Kocher,s father was an engineer and he was a swiss doctor who won a Nobleprize for medicine and designed the idea of a scissor holder for surgery and was used later in other applications like dress making and kitchen Not sure if the crown makers mark is swiss But there is a swiss company called crown that makes a lot of different things.

I like the scissor idea but I just dont think a pair of scissors will fit into the bottom crimp. Its less than a 1/4 inch wide and very tight. To try and slide into this crimp would be hard to do in my opinion and I think we will realize this as soon as someone is curious enough to try it.tinpan said:Don,t for get too try a pair of 19th century scissors as modern ones are smaller and shorter.
Are older scissors that much different? Why dont you try a modern pair just for fun or is it too much trouble for you? Who knows, maybe we will learn something. Are you not even a bit curious?umrgolf2010 said:I wish I had a pair of old scissors like that to test it
