I don't currently own a metal detector but I was thinking about this detector for an entry level snorkeling one. I realize it is a p.i and so there is no discrimination and i have heard that the depth is maybe 3" or 4" but for $145 do you reckon this is a good buy?
Could this find gold rings in swimming holes or enclosed sea swimming areas? Just wondering if it could pay for itself?

Anyone have one or used one that could advise me?

I'm also wondering whether this could detect gold nuggets?

That specialty detector is fine for pier pilings, wharfs, and tight areas with lot's of junk, but I think I'd save my money and get a regular detector that will get more depth and cover more ground. There should be some good used older model PI units for a decent price at your local detector store, E-bay or better yet, with our supporting vendors here on Tnet.

Save up and get a real detector. That was intended to be used for pinpointing in holes and searching under rocks and places a normal detector can't be used. Metal detecting is about area coverage, and you cover very little area with that.

Ok thanks for the advice. I think I'll start a new thread on the next water metal detector up from the vector 730 to stop it getting lost in here.
