Detector(s) used
MXT/ Sunray probe
Hi all, I was just wondering if anyone elso out there besides me use ear buds , You know, the kind you stick in your ear instead of over them. Like the I Pod type. I have been using a Sony pair I bought for about 20 bucks and they seem to work great...I think..Or am I missing signals that I would hear If I were using headphones? For me they are way more comfortable than the heavy sweaty headphones I used to use.
Any input would be helpful. Thank you. By the way I use an MXT and love it!!

What I don't like about them is if I drop my walkman, they get yanked out of my ears and it hurts like a _______. That is why I haven't tried it with the detector.

When was the last time you dropped your detector? :o

;D ;D ;D

This is my next detecting purchase....my current head phones do not stay on my ears well because I am constantly looking down to dig my targets...sometimes after digging I stand up with my detector on the ground and it yanks on the headphone and I feel like an idiot standing there with my head phones half off my head...

It is pretty humid here in Hawaii but I rather use head "cans". It doesn't totally shuts out all the ambient sounds like the in the ear type headphones. I like to know what is going one around me just in case I need to take evasive action ;D.

Thanks for all the input everyone. I asked this question because I see very little mention of it on this forum. I see all kinds of posts on the latest hot headphones out there, Rat phones etc. but with the current technology, there are some very nice sounding ear buds out there. Makes me wonder why anyone would want to wear the old ear muff style. Ear buds are super light weight, cool, and you can also hear sounds around you very well. The good ones have a small volume control in the line. Plus they cut the "nerd" factor way down! ;D

you know eventually some one will ask where you got that crazy looking mp3. i got some earbuds locally at a 99 cents store. worked fine for music. did not try on detector. dont know how long they will last for a buck. will put them to the test and let every one know. why pay 20 bux when one buck is better. ill even send them out to folks who cant get them locally. if you cover the buck and postage. ok, maybe 2 bux. just trying to help all MDers. Gerrettfan2, I already tried the dollar ones. They don't last long! And they give a strange echo sound. They are only worth a buck!! I guess you do get what you pay for. I am looking for a higher end set than the ones I am currently using to see if they are any better. Anyone out there have any brand to recommend?

Most types of headphones meant for listening to music will work fine for metal detecting. Frequency response should be no problem. Try to match impedance. Your detector has a specific impedance or range of impedance, say 8 ohms or 4 to 8 ohms possibly. The manual should say or ask the maker. If you match the impedance you will get the best sound level, tone , etc. Personally I don't like the standard earbud. They don't fit my ear very well. There are some that have a little clip that goes over the ear, they may work better for me. I do find that on windy days or while at the beach that the full cupped headphones are best.
