Starting this thread because someone posted some really cool pictures using a USB microscope. I decided to buy one and while searching Mac supported devices I only came up with one option. The AGPtek USB 800x digital. It was available on EBay as well as Amazon. Since the price was the same I went Amazon. Shipped quick which is typical for Amazon :) but it doesn't work.

The Mac software doesn't work. I glanced at the reviews but didn't really read them because it could find no other options.. Well those reviews said the Mac software was bad...lol.

Anyways I'd like to see what others are using and especially if there is a Mac option.

Yeee Hawwww! Ride em cowboy! Looking forward to seeing some shots from that puppy so I can see if I want to get one too.

OH...you'll WANT to get one:

Looks really good! What was the magnification factor on those shots? I can see that it's got MUCH better depth on the field of focus than my little scope. Mine might as well be a macro lens the field is so flat.

Keep em coming please.
Those are sweet shots!
Gives everything a new perspective for sure!

I gotta get out again and get myself something new to take pictures of!!!!

Cheers

excellent shots MTTS ...what material is pics 10 & 11 ..they look like little sapphire chunks??
these pics make me wanna spend money i dont have on one now ..lol

My 5 cts

I bought a cheep USB microscope similar to those shown above.
As I use Linux the Windows driver/programm does not work and there is no Linux version available.

But as the device is recognized as a "webcam" (because of the chipset inside) you may use any webcam software you want.

On Linux I prefer
guvcview
simiply because I am able to change the white balance manually

So I am able to switch the resolution between 800x600(15fps) and 1600x1200(5fps)

The stand is really :censored:, completely unstable and it is not possible to place something directly (90°) below the cam.

Sounds like the one I bought, the stand is not much. (posted on page 2) Mine came with a DVD, that downloaded the drivers, and other stuff.

Its all small gold pickers. 10&11 is front and back of the same piece. Its my largest piece, courtesy ok Mike letting me work on his claim for a weekend. Thanks Mike!. My favorites are 8,9,14,15 looks like little jewels in the matrix but I'm sure its just quarts. 14/15 has green on one side and red/orange on the other. The one that is round, long and narrow. Is the most unique piece to me. It actually has some merc right in the middle that has a little bubble, but i couldn't get it to show up. Too much LED light from the scope. Haven't figured out the lighting controls just yet. :icon_scratch:

Hopefully others are out there interested in these device who can provide feedback.

Just some recent shot of gold from My Dino light AS-2011 produced with my miniature rod mill. The one piece didn't get flattened but rolled like a burrito.

Edit: those last shots were taken In a gold pan. Anybody notice there is a "texture" visible on the pan? Never heard anything about that before...

I received one for Christmas that is very similar to yours. I sit it on the box and swivel the head 180 degrees so I can take pictures of larger coins. I am thinking of modifying mine by adding a wooden dowel to the shaft so it will be more stable than simply sitting it on the box.

This one can come out of the stand, and be used as a hand held. There so many of them
