Well as far as I can tell, we haven't solved this one yet. I sent photos of the button to the National Button Society on Monday. Hopefully I will hear something back from them soon.

I sent the photo to Bob Edmondson, one of the top buttons dealers and collectors, and he says he has one like it but hasn't been able to identify it either.

Wow, this one may never be solved.

I also sent an email to William Leigh, he is an avid CW button collector. Just awaiting a response from him as well.

Wow!! Since this button is so hard to ID, Do you think it might be pretty valueable or in your opinion is it worthless? Since it's not well known?

By all means keep the button in a safe place until it's ID'd...

Alright guys, I think I may have pinned this one down...

I spoke with William Leigh. He was fairly certain that this is a John Wanamaker Department Store button. He said it was a post-CW commercial button. He said the latest National Button Society bulletin has an article on department store buttons and references this one, however, he was unable to find his copy.

If anyone can track down that bulletin or find another picture on the internet, we would be able to verify this.

Go to www.buttonarium.com - it has a reference to a John Wanamaker Dept Store button, but I can't access it from work..."Web Hosting" sites are not allowed...stupid Big Brother.

I said it earlier and I will mention it again, on another forum there are guys who claim there is a SC button, think Naval though, but it is according to them a two headed eagle, perhaps looking in that direction might help.

I will write a PM to the Administrator of that site, I believe he is one of those who mentioned seeing the two headed eagle button associated with the state of South Carolina and see if he replies with any useful info...

Ah, a two headed American Eagle button does exist

This is not the button in question but this is the one that I mentioned in previous posts, just showing that 2 headed eagle buttons did exist and were American. This is in Albert's book, just took me a bit to find it. LOL

Now, still no idea on the button in question in this post......

I have found Masonic references to the double-headed eagle. I also found this:

http://www.greatseal.com/symbols/eagle.html

Scroll down to the left of the picture with the white eagle. It says the First Great Seal committee used a double-headed eagle for a brief time. Your button isn't that old, however, it could be a commerative button celebrating the first committee?

Just throwing it out there, I am still not sure.

The South Carolina button looks very similar, but I still wont be convinced until I find a photo of one.

Anyone else have any luck with IDing this button yet? I emailed Best Co last week an no one has responded back to me... so I'm out of ideas of how to find out what this button is an it's value... If anyone can help me I sure would appreciate it...
