Unique find

[{Sentinel}]

So, I was hunting with my good buddy Roy and I found this really unique find at about 5 inches. It was emblazoned with a beautiful "US" and I knew right away what that meant! At first it looked like the sole of a shoe. But looking at it further, I determined that it was the remains of a leather horse brush used by the Union. Below is a buckle ans some muskets, and a piece of shrapnel.

I have a problem with the use of Unique. I rarely use it. It means:

1. existing as the only one or as the sole example; single; solitary in type or characteristics.

2. having no like or equal; unparalleled; incomparable

3. the embodiment of unique characteristics; the only specimen of a given kind

In detecting terms you should use the word Unique very carefully. 'Unique to date' is better as more maybe found or there are several you don't know about. Why not say Extremely Rare.

Not taking away from your great find, I just have strong feelings about the word & its use. Specially on ebay

What did the detector pick up? Are those nails I see top and bottom?

Hey Paul, good question, actually they are brass rivets and that is what the detector picked up. Also, Dugfinds, I used the word "unique" as something that you don't find everyday, or rarily find. In my opinion, it is unique, it is the only "one" I have ever found, therefore it is unique to me. Besides, this isnt Ebay, it is TNet. Thanks everybody for your kind comments. HH
