Hello Folks
I have a badge that is almost 2 1/2 inches high and 2 inches across. It has the wording SUB UMBRA TEGIMUR around what looks like a Phoenix with a diamond shape on its breast.I first thought this was a Scottish Clan Badge, but cant find it anywhere. It has 2 lug fasteners on the reverse and looks to be silver plated. If anyone out there can shed any info on this I would be grateful.
Many thanks
Phil

Possibly, and I only say possibly, this might be a Fifth Columnists or Resistance badge and nothing to do with Scots at all. This suggested by the Latin. There appears to be a belt around the perimeter of this device. The back suggests how it might have been suspended.

Might? possibly? this doesn't dound like the doc I know.Show me an example of one of these.

It was just a guess based on the motto and some very cloudy WW II history. This Device doesn't match any of the regular Scots Military units.

Doc
Unless we know WHO this belongs to you cant pinpoint it....CLANS are the family name Motto's are based on that name ...We know it's Scottish because of the belt and the eagle with the diamond shape on chest means highlands 'upper class".....That's all you can figure...Every Clan badge has a different meaning and look...........

"Sub Umbra" simply means "In the Shadow of". There is a Christian Sect whos motto is Sub Umbra Pietr (In the shadow of Peter). Has anybody looked for a Mount Tegimur or something similar? Maybe it is the name of an Eagle or Landmark in Scottish Mythology.

Mike
under the shadow (tegimur) wings to "cover" Also,In Pbk's post #6 there is ,if you look close another kind of symbol on the chest of the eagle....there were all different kinds of symbols the eagle mostly being one where 'under the shadow "SUB UMBRA" was used wings would be of the eagle and covered ...protected by
