Underwater, Beach, Coins, Jewelry & Nuggets: is there one that does it all well?

I have MD some in the past but not passionately, I guess I have too many interests. Looking forward to retiring soon and want to expand my options. I found 40 coins totaling $1.98 last evening on the beach in dry sand with my $200 Radio Shack MD. I figure the jewelry is in the water and wet sand where my MD does not work. I am looking for a new MD that I can hunt the beach and surf for coins and jewelry and take with me to the mountain streams to hunt for gold. Is there a MD that will really do it all? I think I am sold on the Tesoro Tiger Shark lifetime warrenty, since it says it does it all. However, it has manual ground balancing and I am not sure it will be effective for nugget shooting if you have to manually reset the ground balancing every few steps like a competitor's literature suggests. Has anyone successfully used the Tiger Shark for small nugget shooting? I won't say that price is not an issue, but if I can pay a little more and get an all in one unit that does it all, I would rather do it now rather than figure it out later after I have spent the money on one that does not meet all my needs. Any input from you more experienced hunters would be helpful.

Thanks, Ralph

My Tiger Shark and Clean Sweep coil should be here by the weekend. I do realize that I will probably have to buy one that will search deeper. Somehow the link to the Excalibur - CZ20 depth comparison in my previous post got screwed up. It should have been http://jimyce.home.netcom.com/test.html maybe spell check changed it for me. I am expecting 6-8" from the Tiger Shark as opposed to 10"/14" for the CZ20/Excalibur. Your link to www//theGoldenolde.com was outstanding insight on beach hunting and I have made a copy of 28 pages for off line reference. I can visualize the shifting sands in the surf covering and uncovering goodies and that the deeper your MD will search, the more often you can miss the peak opportunity of shifting sand and still make a find. Your other pointers were also very valuable and I appreciate all your input. I will retire again the end of July and look forward to enjoying the beach for a while. My plan of attack is to get to the wet sand with a MD that works there and look for the fresh deposits and as I learn more about the beach and the need for a deeper unit to then buy. Who know it could be in two months... thanks for everything.

Well heck , I might as well get in on this too! Not so long ago I was looking for one machine that did it all too. I finally decided there was no such animal. I bought a Garrett GTI 2500 for coinshooting, nugget prospecting and misc dry land hunting. It works extremely well for its intended purpose. After much looking I decided I wanted a PI unit for underwater hunting and wound up with the Garrett Sea Hunter II. I was not a devoted Garrett fan either, it just turned out that these two fit the requirements I was looking for. I haven't regretted either purchase. Monty

Well, the search is over. I purchased a Tesoro Tiger Shark with a Clean Sweep coil. Turned out the coil was not for the Tiger Shark. If anyone needs a Clean Sweep Coil for a Tiger Shark, you can use a coil with a uMax connection and purchase a cable land-water interface connection cable at about $30. Only problem is that the cable is not waterproof and therefore you are restricted to land and shallow water. Take a look at my Finds post to see what I have found to date with my Radio Shack MD.
"9 days, 2 - 3 hours each day, MDing with my Radio Shack"

I just needed to get to the wet sand and water. Haven't had near as good success with the TS as the RS unit but I am still getting use to the Tiger and the different ID approach of this unit. I just need to get out there and do it again.

Happy Hunting and thanks for all the help in making an informed decision, even though I know this will not be the last unit I buy.
