If you are a Tnet regular, you might recall when I dug a U.S. box plate at a CSA Cavalry camp during the same hunt when Dman recovered the "artillery" hammer on Nov. 14. There are many theories as to why the plate was 'rolled in". The most likely reason is dissimilar metals like a thermocouple. I sent it to my friend Robert McDaniel in Alabama as he thought he could improve the looks of it.
I saw Robert at the Nashville Civil War Show today and he brought my restored plate with him. Is he a magician or what? He is a Master restoration expert. HH, Quindy.

That is awesome Quind!!!Those guys do work magic

WOW congrats that looks great!!!!!!!

Awesome Repair - Robert McDaniel is absolutely the best at Relic repairs. I had him
straighten a Sword Belt plate that was bent every which way. Congratulations
on the U.S. Box plate!!!!

Wow,he did a great job! I will have to remember that name.Occasionally we will buy a saber with slight imperfections and it would be nice to improve on them without hurting the value too much. We were at the show yesterday ,my husband had a table there and should be home pretty soon.

That is fantastic! Regardless of the value of a relic, any hard-to-find or eye-appealing relic is worth the money spent on such a skilled restoration. I have a box plate with some rim loss I'm considering a restoration on, and a pre-war militia plate that was bent into a taco by the plow. Great work!

Thanks for looking and we didn't have a laptop in Arkansas so I could not thank everyone individually who replied. Now, Dman and I have another relic each for Robert to restore-LOL. HH, Q.
