Ugliest nickel ever and coolest ring !

Hello, :hello:

The At pro continues to impress me !! I went back to the pounded site again... :icon_scratch: (Only place I've been all year.) I found some more hidden finds that the other machines missed. I found a really ugly screwed up nickel and a very cool old child's ring. I know there are some tutorials on restoring/cleaning nickels but I can't find the good ones. ??? If anyone has a link to these please post them here, I'd like to try and restore what I can of this old nickel. Simply just to find out what it is.... :dontknow: The little kids ring is very old. With what looks like a frosted glass stone I'm guessing Victorian or late 1800's.. What do you think? I don't think its sterling, but one of the cooler rings I've found. :headbang: Here are some pictures, the dime is for size only. On the last pic, I put a full nickel under the broken one for size too. I hope you all enjoy !! :notworthy:

Keep @ it and HH !! :laughing7:

You can try the ketchup trick that I suggested. There's also Nick-o-lene (sp?) that will restore the date if it's a nickel which it probably is. It etches the coin, but it's already toast so it doesn't really matter. Heck, apply Nick-o-lene to the whole face and see what happens. It should expose some detail.

I thought Nickels don't break like that... ?? ??? :dontknow: I have some Nick-a-date, laying around somewhere.... Is that the same as Nick-o-lene ? Thanks for the suggestions, I'll likely try them.

I've never seen a nickel break like that--true. It's just that the chances of finding "gun money" in the US is very, very low as it's not even easy to find in England. Try the ketchup to remove the crud and then use the Nick-o-lene (or Nick-a-date, yes I believe it's the same thing). If it is a nickel I'd be real curious as to that broken edge. Hopefully it's some other sort of coin. The ketchup won't hurt it and will gently remove the crud for you. If you want something that works a bit faster you can use Worchestershire sauce or even lemon juice...if you use the latter, keep an eye on it and don't leave it in too long.

Whether it's real or costume that's a really pretty setting.
