I found this ("Union Metallic. Cartridge Co.") U.M.C.Co. No.3 casing in a city park in Connecticut while metal detecting.

I realize The company was operational in Bridgeport Connecticut , However this was fired and was just wondering what it was , some suggestions were a 8 gauge shotgun shell or a punt gun.

These special production built salute cannons were of thier own design, carriages and barrels...They were designed for blank charges, and the breech mechanisms probably would not withstand live charges...
