I thought I would post the two snake buckles together in another post. The other double headed buckle came from an old tavern site. I walk quite a distance from the tavern location that is just a field to find this nice looking snake. I have found peaces of others before, it never amazes me at what might be under the next coil swing. I started using my whites 5900 again and man it does a great job, you can tell when you have junk or something that is a keeper. I hope you enjoy these pictures, if anyone can lead me to a site with these buckles. I am also trying to identify an old copper I found several years back, it is hard to see but I think it might be George the first. I will post the two coins in another post.HH

I am not really sure, there is one site I found that had several different types and periods. I would like to know what the meaning of the snake was for the buckle is.

neat finds!!! MR TUFF

Those are great finds. All the best,

Nice finds.
I agree-when all else fails or you just want to get back to basics-the 5900 is an awesome machine.

the use of a snake design is a because of it general overall shape -- its a "s" belt type hook often used as sword belt hooks --being it is normally made of brass and is cast in a "s" type of shape , a snake is a very "natural" design to use --the snake style sword belt buckles were used in both the american rev war era thru the civil war era by americans .--- very cool find.

being your in canada -- most likely your's came off a british officers sword belt * they too used the snake sword belt design.

Thanks for the snake design info. This is what makes this forum a great place to post our finds and have people that know their history and can identify almost everything that is posts. :coffee2:

yes the snake sword buckle design has been used for a long time by the brits cru -- I was just giving a hint of possible time frame of use being it was found in canada -- its age range would be limited to when canada was explored by europeans or americans I would think .

Like those snakes. Cool finds.
